  • Learner’s License Applications Increase in Thane

Thane has recorded the highest number of learner’s license applicants in the past two years as compared to all other cities in the district and this includes Raigad. According to activists, increased spending power of residents coupled with poor public transport system has resulted in this.

As per statistics compiled by the state home department, almost 71,000 residents applied for a driving license which is 3000 more than the previous fiscal. It is also believed that erratic public transport frequency in the city is prompting citizens to purchase vehicles. Most opt for comfort rather that dependency on public transport systems. The transport department of Thane also saw a rise in bike registrations over the previous few years. A drop in citizens travelling by buses was also noted.
