Application Process for a DL in Chennai

The process of application for a driving licence in Chennai can be carried out online as well as offline. To apply for the driving licence online, here are the steps to be followed:

1. Visit parivahan.gov.in.
2. Select online services.
3. Click on driving licence-related services.
4. Choose the name of your state.
5. Once done, select the option of 'apply online' and then 'new driving licence'.
6. Fill in the required details as mentioned on the form.
7. Upload the form, along with your signature and then pay the application fee.
8. Once done, book a driving licence slot for your test.
9. Take the driving test.
10. If you pass the test, the DL will be delivered to you at your doorstep.

If you are not able to apply for the driving licence online, you can choose to apply for the driving licence offline. The steps to be followed to apply offline are:

1. Visit the nearest RTO office.
2. Collect the application form. You can also download the form online, fill it and submit it at the RTO.
3. Once filled, submit the form with the required documents.
4. Then, you will have to book a slot for your DL test.
5. Arrive at the RTO on the specified date and time of the driving test.
6. On passing the test, the DL will be issued to you.

Eligibility Criteria Required for a DL in Chennai

1. For light motor vehicles with gears, you must be above the age of 18.
2. You must be above the age of 20 to drive heavy motor vehicles.
3. You must hold a valid learner's licence before applying for a permanent DL.

You can also apply for a duplicate icence offline by visiting your nearest RTO, collecting the application form, and submitting it along with the list of documents required. Once the department verifies your documents, the duplicate DL will be sent to your registered address.

Renewal of Driving Licence in Chennai

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has enabled the facility of driving Licence renewal online as well as offline. The application of renewal will be taken only within a month from the date of expiry of the driving licence.
