  • Advanced cameras, CCTV network assist police in curbing traffic violations

    The CCTV-based Surveillance and Adaptive Traffic Management System (SATMS) has been helping the Gurugram Police in curbing traffic violations. SATMS technology is fully operational at five busy interactions. Over 1,000 postal challans have been generated for traffic offences like violating the zebra crossing and jumping signals.

    According to department data, 1,77,913 postal challans have been issued since the system's implementation on 16 September 2021. The maximum number of postal challans was 36,167 in January 2022. As many as 11,034 postal challans have been issued in the past nine days.

  • RLVD and ANPR installed in Gurugram

    Last month, red light violation detection (RLVD) and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) started functioning in 26 locations of Gurugram. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) set up these cameras on top of traffic signals.

    The sensors in these hi-tech cameras detect and capture pictures of traffic rule violations and send them to the official server. Traffic police access this information and issues automatically generated challans to the owners of the vehicles via text messages.

    The cameras are useful for lowering the number of accidents, reducing street crimes and encouraging responsible driving. In the near future, more cameras will be installed in different parts of the city. A penalty of Rs.5,000 will be imposed for the red-light violation. Likewise, Rs.500 will be levied on vehicle owners who do not have a High-Security Number Plate (HSNP).
