In India, it is mandatory to have a vehicle registered with the state Regional Transport Office (RTO) before it can be legally driven on roads in the country. Under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, vehicles must be registered within 7 days of purchase.
As per the Bihar transport authority, only the owner of the vehicle can register a vehicle. To register a vehicle in the state, the owner of the vehicle must submit all the required documents in the respective District Transport Office (DTO) within a time period of seven days of purchase of the new vehicle. The work timings of the transport offices are 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The validity of the registration certificate of a vehicle is 15 years.
The fee for the renewal of registration of a two-wheeler is Rs.360.
To renew your car registration, you will have to pay Rs.600.
Form 20 is used to apply for the registration of a new vehicle.
