According to the Moto Vehicles Act 1988, in India, it is illegal to drive without a valid driving licence. However, you need to follow a procedure to get a valid driving licence. You must first get a learner's licence. After completing a month from the learner's licence issue date, you can apply for a permanent driving licence. The RTO will test your driving skills and if you pass the test, you will get a permanent driving licence.
However, you will have to apply again if you wish to acquire a licence for additional categories of vehicles. To apply for additional vehicle categories, you need to submit Form 8 at the RTO.
Form 8 is divided into two parts. The first part consists of personal details, vehicle type and the second part is the certificate of test of competence to drive. The final part of the form will be filled in by the issuing authority.

You may be allowed to edit the driving licence application form after submission. However, you need to visit the nearest RTO or transport department along with valid supporting documents to make the changes.
