Back in the day, filing for an EPF claim was quite a hassle. The whole process involving the required attestation of one's employer and so on to make a withdrawal took a few months and in some cases years.
Now, following the Government of India's initiative to ease the process of settling EPF claims, EPF customers can get their claim settled in 5 days.
All that the customer needs to do is link his/her Aadhaar card to their UAN to get the job done in a few days. Waiting for your EPF claim settlement for months has now become a thing of the past.
The Composite Form introduced by EPFO, also known as Form 11, is set to replace Form 13 in all cases of online automatic transfer.
Currently, employees use Form 13 to file for PF (Provident Fund) account transfer requests, from one employer to another. The retirement fund body has now decided that Form 11 shall be used for all auto transfer cases, instead of Form 13.
The Government of India has introduced the Composite Claims Form - which basically holds the details of the customer's Aadhaar card. Using this Composite Claim form, employees now do not need the attestation of their employers to make a withdrawal. The introduction of the Composite Claims Form has reduced the time taken for an EPF claim settlement, reducing the process to within 5 days.
To ensure that the claim is done within 5 days, employees need to fulfil certain conditions.
Recently introduced by the Government of India, the Composite Claims Form replaces the benefits that come with Form 19, Form 10C (for pension) and Form 31 (for partial withdrawals from EPF). Now, to make EPF settlements, customers must only fill the Composite Claims Form.
The benefits of the Composite Claims Form are listed below:
To make a claim settlement, employees need to follow the steps mentioned below:
Once this is done, the process for making a withdrawal is initiated and employees can expect their PF settlement within 5-10 days.
The EPF has a lock-in period of 5 years, within with any withdrawal made will be termed as a premature withdrawal. All withdrawals made after completion of 5 years in the EPF will be completely tax free as the EPF enjoys the EEE (Exempt, Exempt, Exempt) status. PF Withdrawals made before completion of 5 years in the scheme will be subject to TDS (Tax deducted from source) under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act. For example, if an employee has worked in one company for three years and another one for two years and has been making contributions towards the same PF account, he/she is eligible for withdrawals that would be completely tax free.
Currently, the EPF has an interest rate of 8.25% - the highest in tax savings instruments. Having most processes online for the EPF is another big bonus for customers. Now, customers can make EPF contributions and withdrawals online - a factor that is luring more and more employees into this savings scheme.
EPFO subscribers can now link their Aadhaar number with their UAN online. The EPFO has introduced this system since linking one's Aadhaar card details has become a verification requirement for online claims.
The EPFO launched this new facility just before Diwali in 2017. According to the retirement fund body, this facility will provide faster and better services to UAN members.
After linking Aadhaar or the UID (Unique Identity Number), a unique number issued as identification by UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), with UAN, EPFO subscribers can access other online services of EPFO which needs Aadhaar linking.
If the scan is unclear and the details are not clear then, EPFO may require re-uploading the documents. This will delay the time claim settlement of EPFO.
It takes two to three days to update the Aadhar details in Employee’s Provident Fund after uploading all the required documents.
No, you cannot withdraw your PF amount without linking Aadhar with UAN. The primary requirement of withdrawing PF amount is that your UAN should be active, and it should be linked with your Aadhar.
If you are finding it difficult to link Aadhar with EPF or unable to do it just because the name in Aadhar mismatch with that in UAN, then you and your employer need to submit a joint request for correction of details to the concerned EPFO field office.
It takes around 20 days to settle the EPOFO claim from the date of the receipt of the claim. The time taken to settle the claim may also vary due to various other reasons such as incomplete uploading of documents, not linking Aadhar with UAN, and many more.
You can call the toll-free number - 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number to find out whether your PF claim has been processed or not.
After your PF claim process has been accepted, it shows ‘under process’ until the PF officials are working on it for verifying the details. Within 10 days after the ‘under process’ status shows active, you will receive settlement notification on your registered mobile number.
Yes, you can link your Aadhar with UAN without involving your employer by visiting the official portal of EPFO (Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation). Click on the option ‘e-KYC’ under the online services on the EPFO website. You can also opt for e-KYC through the UMANG application to link your Aadhar with the UAN.
No, employer approval is not mandatory for withdrawing PF amount online. You only need to have active UAN provided by the employer and Aadhar linked with the UAN to withdraw the amount.
