What is Passport Seva 2.0? 

Passport Seva 2.0 is a new version of the regular passport that is combined with an electronic chip (RFID) and antenna that securely stores the personal information and biometric information of the holder, such as fingerprints and photos. The new system also helps in speeding up police checks and lets more people apply from nearby places like post offices or mobile vans.

Steps to Apply for an e-Passport Online 

In order to apply for an e-passport through the official website, you need to follow the steps given below:  

  • Go to the official website of Passport Seva 
  • Register or log in by filling in your credentials 
  • Fill in the application form accurately, and select the option- e-passport
  •  Select a nearby Passport Sewa Kendra office or Post-Office Passport Seva Kendra to your location
  • Pay the required fee online and book your appointment
  •  On the appointment day, visit the PSK with original documents

Under Passport Seva 2.0, police verification has become faster with the help of the mPassport Police App. This app is available in more than 25 states and union territories. It helps in completing the verification process in five to seven days. The app lets officers to get alerts, upload documents directly from the app, and send updates instantly to passport offices. This has greatly reduced delays for first-time applicants, students, and working professionals.
