The Global Entry Program (GEP) allows expedited clearance for entry to the US. Indian passport holders are eligible to apply for the US Custom and Border Protection (CBP) Trusted Traveller Program upon fulfilling the requisites of the enrolment process. In order to qualify for the GEP, the traveller must be pre-approved and categorized as a low-risk visitor while entering the US. There are automatic Global Entry kiosks at few of the international airports in the US where the GEP members can use their machine-readable passport and biometric scan to gain express entry into the US.
Indians who wish to qualify for the GEP must clear the thorough background check followed by an in-person interview. While applying for the GEP, Indian applicants are required to obtain a clearance from the Regional Passport Office which indicates successful completion of Passport and Police/Criminality check by the Passport Seva System. All application must include the completed form (which is also available online) along with the required documents to initiate the processing.
List Of Documents Required
The completed application form along with the required documents can be submitted at one of the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Passport Back Offices (PBO) as per the scheduled appointment booked by the applicant. The background verification for GEP requires the following documents:
- Passport - Original and self-attested photocopy of the passport. The photocopy must include the first two and last two pages of the passport where the details of the ECR/Non-ECR and the observation page is clearly captured.
- Proof of Address (PoA) - Applications for background verification for GEP requires producing a PoA. The acceptable PoA includes water bill, electricity bill, telephone bill, income tax assessment order, Election Commission photo id card, proof of gas connection, certificate from employer of reputed companies on letterhead, spouse's passport copy, parent's passport copy, in case of minors(first and last page), Aadhaar card, rent agreement, photo passbook of bank account, and other recognised documents.
While applying for background verification for GEP, applicants are required to pay the application processing fee of Rs.500. The eligibility criteria and application fee is subject to change. Applicants may require to submit additional documents or provide further approval(s) for the for the background verification.
