After approval, the renewed passport enables the holder to continue travelling internationally with the same name and nationality as stated in their previous passport.

The process for renewing a passport is the same as the process for issuing new passports, with the exception that the applicant must select the choice and form for renewal rather than re-issuance.

Fees and Charges for Passport Renewal

These fees are non-refundable. Also, minors between 15 to 18 years of age who wish to get a 10-year full validity passport are required to pay the same fees as adults. If the application for a new passport is made under the Tatkaal scheme, the Tatkaal fee is to be paid in addition to the application fee mentioned above. It's important to note that the fee schedule may be restructured after the nationwide rollout of the Passport Seva Project.  Here is the fee structure for various passport services:

  1. Passport fees vary depending on the type of service required. For minors below 18 years of age, a fresh passport or re-issue of a passport is valid for five years or until the minor reaches the age of 18, whichever comes first, with 36 pages. The application fee for this service is Rs.1,000/- and an additional Tatkaal fee of Rs.2,000/- is applicable.
  1. In cases where there is a need for a replacement passport with 36 pages for deletion of ECR (Emigration Check Required) or change in personal particulars, the application fee is Rs.1,500/- and an additional Tatkaal fee of Rs.2,000/- is required. If 60 pages are required for the same service, the application fee is Rs.2,000/- and the additional Tatkaal fee is also Rs.2,000/-.
