What is Voter Portal?

The voter portal site was created to provide electors with a single point of contact to avail election service. Users can use this portal to access a variety of services like:

  • Applying for a voter ID card

Steps for NVSP Registration

To register to the NVSP portal, follow the simple steps that are mentioned below:

  1. Open the NVSP portal
  2. Select the ‘Login/Register’ button from bottom right side.
  3. Next click the ‘Don’t have an account, register as new user’ link at the center.
  4. Enter your mobile number and captcha to get an OTP.
  5. After verification, you will get the option to register with an EPIC number or without it.
  6. If you choose the ‘I have EPIC’ option, you will get registered by providing your EPIC number, email ID, and password.
  7. If you choose the ‘I don’t have EPIC’ option, you will get registered by providing your name, email ID, and password.

After registering, you can track the status of your application on the NVSP portal.

Steps to track status of your voter id card in NVSP (2021)

  1. Log on to the national voter's service portalor voter portal
  2. Enter 'Reference ID' that you got at the time of Voter ID Registartion & Form No.
  3. Click on 'Track Status' (Voter ID Status).
  4. The status of your Voter ID will be displayed on the screen.

  • Visit national voter's service portal - The official website of National Voter Portal(NVPS) that provides a wide range of Voter ID related services.
  • Enter the reference number that was provided to you during the Form 8 submission (online or offline). You will need make sure the reference number is accurate and doesn’t have omitted or incorrect letters or numbers.
  • Click on ‘Track Status’ to see the results – Depending on the progress of your application, you will be able to view various types of status results.
  • If the application is not processed and it is in a pending status, you can bookmark the page to visit later
  • You can also track the status of your Voter ID by calling 1950 from your BSNL or MTNL telephone. ‘

You can follow these simple steps to check the status for Voter Card Correction of your Form 8 application. The process for correcting a voter ID card takes around 2 to 3 weeks. You will be required to produce necessary documents (physical copies for offline submission and scanned copies for online submissions) in order to request for voter ID correction(s).

Application Number for Voter ID Card

A couple of years back, if you needed to track the progress of your Voter ID application, you were required to physically visit the election office to know the Voter ID registration status. The government of India has recently created a website exclusively for Voter ID information, wherein you can find all details related to your application.

The online tracking of your Voter ID has been made very simple and you just need to visit the official website of the election commission of the respective state. The information that you will enter online to attain the status of your Voter ID should match the information you filled during the application. Any mismatch or errors would not give you the correct status of your card and may lead to a failed result.

The steps to be followed for checking the status of Voter ID:

  • Log in to the electoral CEO official website.
  • Select the tab that says 'Know the Status of Your Application for Enrolment'. Once you click on this link, a window opens asking for some basic details of the form such as the Form number.

  • You can also select the national voters service portal and click on the Tab that says 'Search your Name in electoral roll'
  • Once the link opens, you can track your application in two ways:
  • Using your application number or the unique EPIC number: There is an option in the website where you can enter the EPIC number and your state number and the search will display your name and EPIC card number.
  • State or District Constituency wise search: You need to enter your name, the state you are in and the district constituency you belong to, along with other details. The Search result will display your Voter ID card status.
  • You must correctly fill in the following details, while looking for Voter ID status online:
  • Name
  • Father's or Husband's name
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • State Name
  • District Constituency

However, sometimes the voter portal website faces issues and may crash or give out error messages. You can always re-enter your details and recheck.

  • Once all the details are entered, click on the Search button.
  • Your Voter ID is then displayed in a pop-up window. Ensure your browser is not set to block pop-ups.
  • After verification of the voter ID card application, you will be able to view the voter card number as well as the e-Seva centre number.
  • Using the above two numbers, you can obtain your updated/new Voter ID card at the respective e-Seva centre.
  • You can also leave a comment with your doubt and wait for someone from the technical team of the website to respond.

India consists of 29 states and each state has an electoral office or election commission of its own. Therefore, each state has its respective official CEO website, where you can find details of your Voter's ID application.

Know Your Election ID Card Status through SMS

Voter ID is one of the most the important legal documents that individuals need. Apart from allowing them to exercise their right to vote, it also serves as an important document for proof of identity and address. Customers can procure a Voter ID once they reach the age of 18.

Customers can apply for voter ID through various methods such as by visiting the Electoral Office in their city or online as well. Once customers have applied for the status of their Voter ID either online, by calling the official helpline number or even through SMS.

EC launches election call centre for voters to check voter status

  • Updated National Population Register will include Aadhaar, PAN, and other information

    The updation exercise which will be enforced on the National Population Register along

    with the 2021 Census will include considering a number of documents of the people. Various documents such as the Aadhaar card details, PAN card, driving license, Voter ID as well as Passport details of the usual people will be included as updates.

    A usual person in a locality is described as one who has been residing in the locality for more than 6 months or a person who plans to stay in a locality for a period of more than 6 months.

    Since its inception, the National Population Register in 2015 updated the basic documents of people such as the Aadhaar card, Ration card and mobile numbers. For the first time, documents such as the passport, driving license and PAN card details will be added.

    All the documents which are to be collected for the NPR must be given to citizens of the country who are above the age of 18. Even though presenting the Aadhaar card is voluntary, other documents such as PAN, passport, driving license, and voter ID will not involve any concern of privacy as they are a part of government-held databases. The passport details will be entered into the database for only Indian citizens.

  • Mega Electors Verification Programme (EVP) to be launched on September 1

    Officials of the Election Commission has stated that the new mega Electors Verification Programme (EVP) is set to be launched on September 1. The programme seeks to update the electoral rolls through crowd sourcing. As per the Commission, the launch will take place across the country and it will be done by 36 CEOs at the state headquarters level, 740 district electoral officers at the district level. Block Level Officers (BLOs) and electoral registration officers will also be part of the programme. The programme will be carried out in campaign mode from September 1 to October 15.

    The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi informed that as part of the programme, a voter from each family will be provided with a username and password in a bid to allow them to upload documents related to electoral registration for himself/herself and the family members. The uploaded documents will be later verified by block level officers (BLOs). The aim of the programme which can be affected both online and offline is to save time, empower voters to assess electoral roll details, self-authenticate and later get the mistakes corrected if there are any.

    It needs to be mentioned here that the cut-off date for the publication of the summary revision draft is 1 January 2020. The final roll will be published by the first or second week of January.

  • EC launches election call centre for voters to check voter status

    The election commission has launched election call centres for voters who can check their details. The call centres will function till the end of 2019 general elections. The election call centres have been set up in districts. Each call centre will be equipped with 30 telephones and managed by 10 supervisors from 7am to 9pm. All the voter requirements will be available at the centre and they can check any details. The voters can also launch any complaint regarding the registration procedure in the call centres. All complaints registered in the election call centres will be forwarded to the District collector or the office of the CEO. The election commission is on a path to ensure that the elections in 2019 are conducted freely and fairly

  • Voter ID Cards Available in e-Seva Centres

    In Kanniyakumari district, new voters can get EPIC (Elector’s Photo Identity Card) for free at e-service centres that are present in 4 taluk offices. Old voters can avail colour cards for Rs.25. They have to only provide their Voter ID Card Number. Out of 36,150, 1,450 new voters got their Voter ID card through the centre this week.

  • Government relaxes passport norms for adopted children, single moms

    In a move which can benefit thousands, the government modified the passport norms for adopted children, single mothers, and sanyasis/sadhus. The main purpose of this was to reduce the burden of paperwork and improve the overall process for people belonging to these categories. As per the new rules, individuals can submit their Aadhar cards, PAN card, Voter ID Card, DL or school leaving certificate as proof of date of birth, whereas digitally signed marriage certificates would be accepted as marital proof.

    Single parents can now write the name of only one parent now, with passports being issued without the need for more names. Sanyasis, who were previously expected to apply for a passport using their parents name can now apply by giving their spiritual gurus name instead. Similarly, orphans can apply for a passport via a declaration provided by the head of their orphanage. Parents of adopted children can apply for their passport by providing a self-attested undertaking. In addition to these norms, the government also launched a new “Twitter Sewa” aimed at connecting directly with aggrieved individuals.
