Updates on Voter List UP

  • UP government to embrace the idea of a one nation, one election in the state

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to put the idea of one nation, one election in practice. The decision was taken after a seven member electoral reform committee chaired by Sidharth Nath Singh, health minister and state government spokesperson, submitted a detailed report to Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh on the same. The seven member committee was setup in April, 2018.

As per the report submitted by the seven member committee, the idea of one state, one election can be put into practice in two phases. Another suggestion was the regarding the common electoral roll which as per the committee can be prepared for the whole state at once. The committee has also looked into linking Aadhaar with the electoral roll to make the whole process much more simpler.

As per Yogi Adityanath, conducting elections at the same time for the whole country would leave more time for the government to focus on other important issues at hand. Conducting elections whether it be at the centre, state or at the local level requires huge amount of logistics such as hiring security personnel, campaigning and deployment of election staff which is no easy task.
