How To Download GST Certificate

A Goods and Services Tax (GST) certificate is a valid document proof of being registered under the GST law in India. Any kind of business in India whose income exceeds the threshold limit for GST registration need to register under GST.

After registering the business in GST, the taxpayer will receive a GST registration certificate which needs to be displayed at their place of work.

    Validity Period of GST Registration Certificate

    If the registration application was submitted within thirty days of the day the person became subject to GST registration, the GST registration certificate is valid as of that date. If not, validity is based on the date the certificate was issued in accordance with CGST Rules 9(1), 9(3), and 9(5).

    If an application comes under the cases if delay by the officer under the CGST Rule 9(5), then the officer should send the duly signed registration certificate within three working days from the duration mentioned under the same subrule.

    GST certificate does not have any expiry date if issued the regular taxpayers. Your GST certificate will remain valid until you have not surrendered or cancelled it. When it comes to a casual taxable individual, GST registration is valid for 90 days after which the document will turn invalid. Having said that, you can also extend or renew the validity of GST certificate by the end of its validity period.

    Contents of a GST Registration Certificate

    The GST registration certificate comes with the main certificate and the two annexures namely Annexure A and Annexure B.

    Given below are the contents of the main GST registration certificate:

    1. GSTIN of the taxpayer
    2. Legal name and trade name
    3. Business type
    4. Address of the business
    5. Date of liquidity
    1. Registration type
    2. Validity period
    3. Particulars of approving authority: Name, designation, jurisdictional office, as well as signature
    4. Date of certificate issuance

    1. The GSTIN
    2. The trade name of business
    3. The legal name of business
    4. Additional places of business

    1. The GSTIN
    2. The legal name of business

    How to Get GST Certificate?

    An individual who fulfils the eligibility can apply for GST certificate by visiting www.gst.gov.in. Once the verification of application is done by the officer, the registration will be approved. The registration will taken into effect from the date when the liability for registration comes up in case the application was submitted within 30 days from that date. In case the submission is delayed, the GST registration is valid from the date of grant of registration.

    How to Download GST Certificate?

    If you are already an existing registered taxpayer, you can download the GST certificate in Form GST REG-06 from the GST portal.It is available for download in the GST portal and the government does not issue any physical certificate. The following are the steps to download the GST Certificate in Form GST REG-06:

    1. Firstly, you need to login to GST portal.
    2. Go to the ‘Services’ and click on the ‘User Services’.
    1. Now click on ‘View/ Download Certificate’.
    2. Next, click on the ‘Download’ button.
    3. Take a print out of the PDF document which you have downloaded.

    GST Certificate Amendments or Changes

    If there are any kind of errors or mistakes on GST certificates, they can be rectified or amended by the taxpayers. The amendments of the GST registration certificate are segmented into two different parts:

    1. Amendment of core fields comprises:
      1. Business name
      2. Inclusion or exclusion of the stakeholder
      3. Additional place of business
      4. Principal place of business

    Amendment of non core fields comprise of the details which are not mentioned above 

    Steps to Amend the Core Field

    Given below are the steps to amend the core field:

    1. Open the GST portal.
    2. Login using your username and password and enter the captcha code.
    1. Now, select ‘Services’ and click on the ‘Registration’ option.
    2. Click on ‘Amendments of Registration core fields’.
    3. Modify the details if needed.
    4. Click on the verification checkbox.
    5. Now enter the name of the place.
    1. Click on the authorized signatory from the drop down signatory list.
    2. Sign the GST registration certificate digitally using through a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).

    Fields Which Cannot Be Amended

    There are specific fields present in the registration certificate which cannot be changed.

    1. Amendment in the Permanent Account Number (PAN) card details.
    1. Modification in the constitution of business.
    2. Change in the business place because GST is state specific.
