How to Travel Without a Passport: ID Rules

There are visit two countries without a passport, i.e. Nepal and Bhutan. To visit these countries, you will require an Indian ID and some basic entry permits. Let’s learn more about each of these countries: 

1. Nepal

2. Bhutan

Requirements for Travelling Bhutan on Your Own Vehicle

In order to get entry though an Indian vehicle, you need an Entry Permit and an Extension Permit from the Road Safety and Transportation Authority (RSTA) to travel in Bhutan. Vehicles are only allowed to enter up to the Rinchending Check Post free of cost. Beyond this point, a daily Green Tax of Nu 4,500 applies. Registration on the Check Post Management System (CPMS) is required to cross RBP checkpoints. You will need the following documents:

  • Vehicle emission and roadworthiness certificate
