The Election Commission of India (ECI) has streamlined this process, making it easy to transfer your voter ID online. 

Process to Transfer Voter ID After Marriage?

The process that must be followed to transfer the Voter ID online after marriage is given below: 

  1. Visit https://voters.eci.gov.in/
  1. Click on ‘Login’. 
  1. On the next page, enter the register mobile number, email ID, or EPIC no. 
  1. Enter the captcha. Click on ‘Request OTP’. 
  1. Under ‘Shifting of residence/ correction of entries in existing electoral roll’ section, you will find ‘Fill Form 8’, click on it. 
  1. Choose ‘Self’. 
  1. Enter the EPIC Number. 
  1. Click on ‘Submit’. 
  1. Select ‘OK’. 
  1. Choose the relevant options next and click on ‘Ok’. 
  1. Next, the relevant details on Form 8 must be filled out. Necessary documents must be uploaded as well. 
  1. Click on ‘Preview and Submit’. 
  1. Once you have checked the document, click on ‘Submit’. 

The reference number will be sent to your email ID and mobile number.

Process to Change Electoral Card After Marriage

The process that must be followed to change the Electoral Card after marriage is given below: 

  1. Visit https://voters.eci.gov.in/
  1. Click on ‘Login’. 
  1. On the next page, enter the register mobile number, email ID, or EPIC no. 
  1. Enter the captcha. Click on ‘Request OTP’. 
  1. Under ‘Shifting of residence/ correction of entries in existing electoral roll’ section, you will find ‘Fill Form 8’, click on it. 
  1. Choose ‘Self’. 
  1. Enter the EPIC Number. 
  1. Click on ‘Submit’. 
  1. Select ‘OK’. 
  1. Choose ‘Correction of Entries in Existing Electoral Roll’ and select ‘Ok’. 
  1. Next, relevant details must be uploaded and the necessary documents must be uploaded. 
  1. Click on ‘Preview and Submit’. 
  1. Once you have checked the document, click on ‘Submit’. 

You will receive the reference number on the registered email ID and mobile number.

Which Form to Use?

The form you need to fill out depends on your specific situation: 

  1. Form 6: This form is for new voters or those who are shifting their residence to a different constituency. 
  1. Form 8: This form is used for a variety of corrections and changes, including a change of residence within the same constituency, correction of entries in the electoral roll, replacement of a lost EPIC, or marking of a Person with Disability (PwD). It's also the correct form to use for a name change after marriage. 
  1. Form 8A: This form is specifically for shifting your residence within the same assembly constituency.

  1. Registered sale deed. 
  1. Rend deed (registered). 
  1. Passport. 
  1. Passbook. 
  1. Aadhaar Card.
