How to Link Aadhaar with Voter ID (EPIC)

Linking Aadhaar with your Voter ID (EPIC) is a process by which voter details can be verified, and duplicate entries in the electoral roll can be reduced. It can be done by submitting Form 6B by visiting the official website of the Election Commission of India. However, it depends upon the choice of voters whether they want to provide their Aadhaar information for electoral roll authentication or not. 

Is It Mandatory to Link Aadhaar with a Voter ID? 

No, it is not mandatory to link Aadhaar card with Voter ID. Under the Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2021, it is completely voluntary to provide the Aadhaar details through Form 6B. 

  • The main purpose of linking Aadhaar with Voter ID is to verify the identity of voters and check out if there are any duplicate entries in the electoral roll. This process helps in improving the accuracy of voter records. However, submitting Aadhaar information is totally optional, which is based on the consent of the voter. 
  • The judgement of the Supreme Court's Justice K.S. Puttaswamy (2017) also said that privacy is a fundamental right. This means your Aadhaar details should be collected and used only according to the law and with proper protection. 
  • As of 2026, many voters have voluntarily linked their Aadhaar with their Voter ID through Form 6B. The Election Commission of India (ECI) and UIDAI are also working to make a more secure system to verify Aadhaar details. 

Documents Required to Link Voter ID with Aadhaar Card 

If you wish to provide Aadhaar information to link Voter ID, then you will need to provide the following documents: 

  • A duly filled Form 6B 
  • Aadhaar number 
  • Mobile number linked to your Aadhaar 
  • Voter ID (EPIC) number 
  • Photocopies of your Aadhaar card and Voter ID 

There are various methods by which you can complete the process of Voter ID linking with Aadhaar Card. These are as follows:  

1. Through NVSP Website  

Step 1: Visit the official website of the ECI Citizen Service Portal. 

Step 2: Log-in or Sign-up into the website. 

Step 3: Click on the option ‘Forms’ and select the ‘Form 6B’. 

Step 4: Select the state and your Assembly/Parliamentary Constituency. 

Step 5: Fill in the required personal details, verify your mobile number by entering the OTP, and provide your Aadhaar number. 

Step 6: Click on the option ‘Preview’ and review all your details. 

Step 7: Click on ‘Submit’. 

2. Through Voter Helpline App 

Step 1: From the Play Store or App Store, download the Voter Helpline App. 

Step 2: Open the app and click on the option ‘Voter Registration’. 

Step 3: Click on the ‘Electoral Authentication Form (Form 6B)’. 

Step 4: Verify the Aadhaar-linked mobile number by entering OTP. 

Step 5: Select ‘Yes I Have Voter ID’ and click on ‘Next’.  

Step 6: Enter your ‘Voter ID (EPIC) number, select the ‘State’ and click on the option ‘Fetch Details’. 

Step 7: Fill the details such as Aadhaar number, place of authentication, registered mobile number and click on the ‘Next’ button. 

Step 8: Review all the details of your Form 6B and click on ‘Confirm'. 

Step 9: Note the reference number for future reference. 

3. Through SMS 

Step 1: Open the Messages app on your mobile phone. 

Step 2: Create a new SMS. 

Step 3: Type the message: ECILINK <space> EPIC Number <space> Aadhaar Number 

Step 4: Send this SMS to 166 or 51969. 

Step 5: After sending this SMS, you will get a confirmation message that confirms your request has been received or processed. 

4. Through Call Centre 

To link Voter ID with Aadhaar Card via call centre, you can call 1950 on weekdays between 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
