    • Fuel Prices Kept Unchanged After 6th Day of Reduction

      Petrol and diesel prices were kept unchanged today after the 6th day of reduction in prices. This month, petrol prices have come down by Rs.2 per litre, while diesel rates have reduced by Rs.1.60 per litre across major metro cities in the country. In Delhi, petrol costs Rs.77.43 per litre, while diesel is available at Rs.72.19 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol is being sold at Rs.82.94 per litre and diesel is available at Rs.75.64 a litre. In Chennai and Kolkata, petrol is being sold at Rs.80.42 per litre and 79.36 a litre, respectively. Diesel in these cities was being sold at Rs.76.30 a litre and Rs.74.05 per litre, respectively.     • Petrol Prices Reduced by OMCs after 13 days

      Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) on Thursday slashed the rates of petrol in the country after a period of 13 days. The rates were cut by Rs.0.21 per litre as of Thursday. Following the cut in the prices, consumers living in Delhi and Mumbai needed to pay Rs.82.62 and Rs.88.08 for every litre of petrol.

      It needs to be mentioned that of late the rates of petrol have reached unprecedented levels in various cities of the country owing to a variety of factors. The reasons for which rates were hiked by oil companies were high international crude oil prices, fall of the rupee against the US dollar and high excise duty rates imposed on fuel.

      It is noteworthy to mention that in a bid to provide relief to the consumers, the government has cut the fuel rates by Rs.2.50 on October 4. However, the price cut was wiped out in the next 12-13 days owing to rising oil prices.

      Traders are saying that all of this is because of the rising cost of crude oil, which went up by $7 overnight a fews days ago as demand has risen massively. The Indian rupee too is at an all time low, exchanging at Rs.71+ per US dollar.

      Another major concern, reports say, is that India is highly dependent on crude oil from Iran, which has recently been slapped with additional sanctions, and supplies have been hit significantly owing to this.
