Diesel price in Arunachal Pradesh compared to other north-eastern Indian states such as Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur is among the lowest, with a litre of diesel trading at around Rs.81.92/Lt in May 2026. The comparatively lower diesel price in the state can be attributed to moderate VAT rates and lower state levies compared to several neighbouring states. The diesel rate in Arunachal Pradesh also remains relatively stable due to lower additional cess and taxation imposed by the state government.
The Arunachal Pradesh government currently levies value added tax (VAT) of 18% on a litre of diesel, which compared to other north-eastern Indian states is among the lowest, with the lowest levied by Assam government. The latest tax revision in the state took place in April 2025, when the government increased the tax from 16% to the current 18%. VAT on petrol was increased from 22% to 27%. With the revised tax rate, diesel in the state became costlier by Rs.1.25/Lt and petrol by Rs.2.95/Lt in the same month.
