IBPS PO 2020 Eligibilty

The Institute of Banking Personnel Section (IBPS) conducts exam every year in order to recruit candidates for banking jobs. The autonomous body recruits for clerical cadre, probationary officers and specialist officers. Here, we look at the eligibility criteria for IBPS Probationary Officers Exam 2020. Read on to know whether you are eligible and what criteria you need to conform to.

While IBPS hasn’t released the official notification till date, it is safe to say that the eligibility criteria will be the same as the previous years. The eligibility criteria for the exam is based on various factors like the candidate’s nationality, age, and educational qualifications. Candidates belonging to reserved categories may need to fulfil additional criteria.

IBPS PO 2020 Nationality criteria

A candidate must either be

  • A Citizen of India or
  • A Subject of Nepal/Bhutan or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India prior to 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in the country
  • A Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who migrated from countries like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Burma, Kenya, United Republic of Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zaire, and Zambia with the intention of permanently settling in the country.

IBPS PO 2020 Educational Qualification

In order to apply for the IBPS PO exam, you need to have a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university or any equivalent qualification recognized by the central government. Certain points which you to keep in mind regarding the educational qualification criteria are listed below:

  • The qualifying exam must be passed on or before 28 August 2020
  • The date mentioned on the marksheet will be considered as the official date of passing the qualifying exam.
  • A copy of the marksheet or passing certificate needs to be submitted at the time of interview to prove that the exam was cleared before the cut-off date.
  • If the result is posted only on the university’s official website or a web-based certificate is provided, you will need to get the certificate issued in original and ensure that it is signed by the appropriate authority of the University indicating the date of passing.
  • You have to clearly specify the obtained percentage in the qualifying exam when submitting the online application.
  • If your university awards CGPA or OGPA, you will need to convert the same into percentage. This shall be applicable for those Universities as well where class or grade is awarded on the basis of marks obtained in the honours subject.
  • The fraction of percentage arrived at will not be ignored. For example, 59.99% will not be rounded off to 60%. It shall be considered as less than 60%.

IBPS PO 2020 Age criteria

Any candidate who is willing to apply for the IBPS PO exam must be between 20 and 30 years of age as of 1 August 2020. Candidates belonging to reserved categories can avail age relaxation. The table listed below highlight the age relaxation depending on the category:

Persons affected by 1984 riots 5 years


  • It must be noted here that the relaxation in upper age limit when it comes to SC/ST/OBC candidates is allowed on cumulative basis with only one of the remaining categories for which age relaxation is permitted.
  • To avail age relaxation, candidates must need to produce supporting documents in original and photocopies at any stage of the recruitment process.
  • No reservation can be availed in Officers’ cadre for ex-serviceman
  • The status of an ex-serviceman ceases once an ex-serviceman joins a government job on the civil side after availing the benefits offered to him as an ex-serviceman.

IBPS PO Eligibility for EWS Category

Candidates who belong from families having gross annual family income of less than Rs. 8 lakhs and are not covered under the existing reservations for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Schedule Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) are identified as belonging from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category. For them, IBPS reports a 10 percent reservation in the vacancies. The eligibility for availing the benefit under the category are listed below along with the above-mentioned criteria:

  • The property/properties owned by the family in different locations would be clubbed while applying the property holding test to determine EWS status.
  • The term ‘family’ will include the person who seeks benefit of reservation, his/her parents and siblings below the age of 18 years. His/her spouse and children below the age of 18 years will also be considered.
  • An Income and Asset certificate issued by a competent authority in the prescribed format must be submitted at the time of document verification and interview to avail the benefit of EWS reservation.
  • The annual family income will include revenue from all sources such as salary, agriculture, business, profession etc. and it shall be the income from the financial year previous to the application year.


A family that has possession of any of the listed below assets irrespective of the annual family income will not be considered as belonging from the EWS category:

  • Residential plot of 200 square yards and above in areas other than the notified municipalities.
  • Residential plot of 100 square yards and above in notified municipalities.
  • Residential flat of 1000 square feet and above.
  • 5 acres of agricultural land and above.

IBPS PO Eligibility for PwD Category

When it comes to Persons with Disability (PwD), they are eligible for reservation under section 34 of ‘The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016’ as per the norms laid down by the Government of India. Reservations can be availed under this Act by the candidates who fall under the listed categories:

  • Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy.
  • Deaf and hard of hearing
  • Autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness
  • Blindness and low vision
  • Multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses of all the above-mentioned categories including deaf blindness in the posts identified for each disability.

  1. I am awaiting my graduation final year result. Can I apply for the IBPS PO exam 2020?

    As long as the result is declared before the cut-off date mentioned in the official notification, you can apply for the exam.

  2. Am I eligible for filling the IBPS PO online application form given that I am an Arts graduate?

    You can fill the IBPS PO online application if you have a graduation degree, the stream doesn’t matter.

  3. What is minimum percentage required in the qualifying exam to apply for IBPS PO?

    There is no minimum percentage. You can apply for the exam if have completed your graduation.

  4. Do I need to have a computer knowledge certificate in order to apply for IBPS PO Exam, 2020?

    No, you need not have a computer knowledge certificate to apply for the IBPS PO exam.

  5. I am 19 years old. Will I be able to apply for the IBPS PO Exam?

    No, you won’t be able to apply for the IBPS PO exam as the minimum age to apply for the exam is 20 years.

  • IBPS PO Mains 2021 results announced

    The results of the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) online mains exam for the post of Probationary Officer (PO) have been released. This is also for the post of Management Trainee (CRP PO MT X). The results will be available for download from 18 February 2021 to 24 February 2021 on the official website of IBPS. Candidates who have qualified in this examination will be summoned for an interview which will have a score of 100 marks. The interview admit card for these posts will be uploaded on the official website soon. Those who then clear the interview will allotted provisionally to one of the participating banks based on the vacancies for the financial year 2021 to 2022. Currently, there are 3517 vacancies in banks across India.

  • 2021 IBPS RRB PO Main Results declared

    The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection or IBPS had conducted the CRP RRB IX Officers Scale I examinations earlier on 4 February for hiring for 2021.

    The institution has declared the results for the same on 8 February 2021. The candidates who have secured the cut off marks for the Probationary Officer mains examination will be eligible to go to the stage of the hiring process. The results can be checked online on official website of IBPS at www.ibps.in

  • Application and registration process resume for the IBPS PO Prelims exam

    The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection has reopened the registration process for the supplementary vacancies. The candidates who wish to apply for the IBPS PO Prelims Exam can do so for the vacancies by filling up the application form which will be available till 11 November 2020.

    The preliminary examination will be conducted on 5 January and 6 January 2020 and the application form has been released online and the candidates will have to apply for the last date.

  • UGC NET Begins on September 16, Admit Card Yet to Be Released

    UGC NET is exam to take place on September 16, and the candidates are yet to receive their admit cards. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) twice a year: in June and in December. While the June edition of UGC NET 2020 could not take place due to COVID-19 pandemic and was rescheduled to September. UGC NET will be held from September 16 to 18 and September 21 to 25.

  • IBPS candidates can submit their application via smartphone

    The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection is now allowing candidates to apply for recruitment via smartphones. The application form can also be completed by the candidates with the help of their smartphones. Earlier, the process was not mobile-friendly and could only be completed via desktop. The new smartphone process has been informed to candidates on IBPS’s official website. The preliminary exam will be held on 3 October, 10 October, and 11 October. Individuals who pass the preliminary exam will be able to attend the main exam that is scheduled for November. The last date to submit the application form is 26 August 2020. You will need to change the display mode to auto-rotate on your smartphone first. You can visit the official website of IBPS and go to the recruitment section.   • New Exam Centre Rules released for Social Distancing for IBPS RRB PO 2020 Exam

    The IBPS RRB Prelims 2020 exam will be conducted in August this year by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) for the recruitment of over 9600 vacancies of Officer Scale 1, 2, 3 and Office Assistant (Multipurpose) in the participating Regional Rural Banks. This year it is estimated over 40 RRBs are participating in the recruitment drive. Lakhs of candidates from all over the country will apply for the IBPS RRB Recruitment 2020 and will appear for the test which will be held across various exam centres in India. Since the exam is considered to be highly competetive, and the ongoing crisis of COVID-19 disease, a set of instructuons and guidelines have been issued by the IBPS which the candidates will have to follow strictly at exam centres on the day of examination including the social distancing norms. Have a look at the new exam day instructions below in detail.

    In order to ensure the safety of candidates and prevent close contact among the candidates, IBPS will be following "Social Distancing Mode of Conduct" for the IBPS RRB Prelims or Mains examinations. Candidates fail to follow these instructions will not be allowed to appear for the exam. Candidates will have to carry the following items with them on the day of examination that is face mask, gloves, personal hand sanitizer (50 ml), transparent water bottle, a simple pen, RRB Admit Card, Original ID Proof, and a photocopy of ID Card. Candidates will have to download Aarogya Setu app on their mobile phones. The security guards at the exam centres will check candidates' Aarogya Setu app status before permitting them to enter the exam hall. If a candidate does not have a smart phone, they will have to bring a signed declaration. If the Aarogya Setu app shows Moderate or High Risk Status, the candidate will not be allowed to enter the centre.

    Candidates will have to undergo temperature check at the entry point. Security deployed at exam centre will check candidates temperature with thermo guns. Those with more than 99.14 degrees F temperature will not be permitted to appear for the exam. Once the exam is over, the candidates will have to exit the centre in orderly manner to avoid crowding.

  • HC asks J&K Bank to start process for 350 PO, 1500 BA posts

    On Monday, the J&K High Court had allowed the Jammu and Kashmir Bank to open their link for online registration for 1,500 banking associate and 350 probationary officer vacancies. On 15 June, the court issued a notice to this bank and the government had asked them to respond and open the process selecting for banking associates and probationary officers in the bank.

  • State Bank of India hiring for 431 job posts

    The State Bank of India has started the registration process on 23 June to fill up 431 vacancies with the bank looking to hire candidates for the position of Specialist Officer. The last date for the registration is 13 July. The bank also has employed a possibility for candidates to enlist themselves for the position of the Specialist Officer on a legally binding basis. The interested candidates will need to be a graduate or a Post Graduate for the field they apply for.

    SBI has begun accepting online applications for the registration for Specialist Officer. A total of 431 vacancies will be accessible such as Head, Central Research Team, Investment Officer, Project Development Manager, Relationship Manager, SME Credit Analyst, Product Manager, Manager, Faculty, Banking Supervisory Specialist, VP, Chief Manager, DM and Data Protection Officer under Specialist Cadre Officers.

  • IBPS SO Recruitment 2020 Results have been declared

    The last results of IBPS Specialist Officers IX recruitment 2020 had been released by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS). The provisional allotment and cutoffs scores details have been published on the website-ibps.in. The preliminary examinations for IBPS specialist officer had been held in December 2019. The people who have qualified for the exams in January 2020 had gone through interviews in February 2020.

    The candidates who had passed will now get the appointment letter from the banks by email and post. This will have the information on the verification, banks joining formalities and reporting date. 1,163 specialist officer vacancies had been advertised in 17 public sector banks for 2020–2021. The scores of exam and the personal interview had been combined and also converted for 100.
