The Life Insurance Corporation of India has taken the initiative to offer its customers the quickest solutions to their insurance needs through its e-Services. LIC’s e-Services provides several functionalities that could previously only be availed by physically visiting a branch of the company. Thanks to the new initiative, you can now make the most of these services without having to step out of the comfort of your home.
How to Register for LIC’s e-Services
- Visit the LIC website (www.licindia.in)
- Locate the ‘Online Services’ box on the left hand side of the page and click on ‘Customer Portal’.
- You will be re-directed to the ‘LIC e-Services’ page where you will have to click on ‘Registration for e-Services’ under the ‘Functionalities Offered’ section.
- There will be two blocks – one which says ‘Registered User’, and the other that says ‘New User’.
- Select ‘New User’ and enter the details requested thereafter. The details that must be entered include any one of your LIC policies, the policy number of said policy, the date of birth of the individual as mentioned in the policy document, and the instalment premium. The individual’s Email ID and mobile number must also be provided here before checking the box which says, ‘I confirm that the mobile number mentioned above is registered under my name and is being used by me’.
- Hit ‘Proceed’ after entering the required information.
- A User ID and Password must then be selected based on the terms and conditions of the website. This user ID and password will be your login credentials for the LIC portal.
- A welcome mail will be sent to your registered email ID, confirming your registration for LIC’s e-services.
- To login to the website, click on ‘LIC’s e-services’ and select ‘Registered User’ before entering your user ID and password.
- Once you have logged in to the portal, you will be able to access a variety of services such as Basic Services, e-Services, and Premier Services.
How to Use LIC’s e-Services
After you have registered yourself with LIC’s e-Services, you will have to click on the e-Services link and login using your user name and password. A form will have to be filled in for you to avail the services on the portal. All your policies will also have to be registered for the same. The form should be printed, signed and the scanned image should be uploaded on the portal. A scanned image of your Passport / Aadhaar Card / PAN Card should also be uploaded. The size of the file which contains the scanned image must be under 100KB. The image could be in .bmp, .tiff, .jpeg, .jpg, .png or .gif format. Once you have completed the aforementioned actions, you will receive an acknowledgement from the company in the form of an SMS and e-mail.
Facilities for Online Payment
LIC’s e-Services can be used to make your LIC premium payments online including repayment of loans, payment of loan-interest due and renewal premium due. These payments can be made through different modes such as UPI (Unified Payment Interface), credit card / debit card, net banking and BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money). The payment towards renewal premium can be done for all policies that are in force. However, policies that have been registered for premium payment via NACH (National Automated Clearing House) and those under Salary Saving Scheme cannot be renewed online. Customers are allowed to make the payment of premium a month before the due date of the policy.
The credit cards allowed by LIC’s e-Services include Amex, MasterCard and VISA, while the debit cards allowed include Rupay, MasterCard and VISA. Loan interest payments cannot be made under PMVVY (Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana) and VPBY (Varishtha Pension Bima Yojana) plan policies.
Policy Status and Policy Schedule
The webpage will display some of the basic information of your LIC policy, like the term of the plan, the sum assured, the first unpaid premium, the date of which coverage commenced, etc. The policy schedule will also be displayed on the page, albeit just the first page of the document.
The current position of your loan will be shown, like the extent of the due up to which the loan interest is paid, the overall outstanding loan amount under the policy, etc.
The overall bonus accrued under the policy can be seen in LIC’s e-Services. The bonus will become payable only when the final payment is made under the policy.
The date of Maturity Benefit or Survival Benefit offered by the policy over the course of the policy term can be seen on the portal.
Premium Due Calendar
Information regarding your due premiums over the course of the year will be displayed in a monthly format.
For lapsed policies, revival quotation shall be provided.
Premium Paid Certificate
In case of individual policies, the history of premiums paid over the course of a fiscal year will be provided online. However, information will be displayed only for three financial years including the present fiscal year. In case of consolidated policies, the history of premiums paid will be provided. All the life insurance policies registered under the user’s name (not including children and spouse policies) will be shown over the course of the financial year. Like individual policies, the information available will only be for three financial years including the present fiscal year.
Proposal Form / Policy Bond Image
The portal will display a scanned image of the proposal form and the policy bond for all policies that have been enrolled on the website.
Information regarding any claim that has been paid under the policy will be displayed along with the cheque / NEFT details, the amount of money paid and the date on which the payment was made.
Customers will have the option to register a grievance or complaint with the Life Insurance Corporation of India through this facility.
Claims for Death Benefit
To make death claims under a normal life insurance policy, the beneficiary or nominee of the life assured will be legally eligible to receive the death sum assured after providing an intimation of the policyholder’s death. The intimation must be filed with the servicing branch of the LIC. The claim requirements include Claim Form ‘A’ in Form Number 3783 (Form Number 3783A can be used in case the policy has run for three years or more), a certified extract from the death register, and the original policy bond along with the deed/s of assignment/s, if any. Other requirements may be made by the company based on the policy’s status, in which case the servicing branch will have to be contacted for further details.
The maturity claims made by any customer of the Life Insurance Corporation of India will be settled on or prior to the due date. The intimations for maturity claims are generally sent by the servicing branch at least two months before the maturity date. The Discharged Receipt in Form Number 3825 will have to be submitted along with your original policy bond a month prior to the due date. Early submission will ensure that your claims are processed before the due date. In case you do not get any intimation for your maturity claims in the following couple of months, you will have to immediately contact the servicing branch.
