Shiksha Sahayog Yojana Plan was launched in the year 2001 and it provides scholarships to children whose parents are members of Janashree Bima Yojana. Students who are studying in the standard 9, standard 10, standard 11, and standard 12 are eligible.
Launched in December 2001, the Shiksha Sahayog Yojana (SSY) is a social security scholarship scheme meant for children whose parents are members of Janashree Bima Yojana. The Janashree Bima Yojana provides life insurance to individuals living marginally above or below the poverty line.
Students studying in standard 9, 10, 11 and 12 (including ITI courses) are eligible for scholarship under the Shiksha Sahayog Yojana, provided their parents are members of Janashree Bima Yojana. However, in case a student is detained in the same standard for poor performance, he cannot avail of the scholarship under this scheme for the following year.
Under the Shiksha Sahayog Yojana, a student can avail of Rs.300 (every quarter) for up to four years. It is important to note that only two children in one family can avail of scholarships under Shiksha Sahayog Yojana. Furthermore, there is no premium charged under this scholarship scheme.
A member of Janashree Bima Yojana should fill out an application form which can be obtained from a nodal agency (department of state government which deals with the welfare of any occupation group, village panchayat and self-help groups among others). The filled out applications with the list of students eligible for scholarships will be certified, following which, they will be sent to the Pension and Group Schemes Department (P and GS) of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) for disbursement. A nodal agency is responsible for disbursal of scholarships to eligible students under this scheme. It is important to note that eligible students from the 'poorest of the poor' backgrounds will be given first preference given the limited number of scholarships available under Shiksha Sahayog Yojana.
