Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Haryana

The state of Haryana falls under the "Urban" category of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme. The PMAY housing for all plan was launched by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation (MOHUPA) with a vision to provide a proper house for every family residing in India. Before you read the information related to the PMAY guidelines in Haryana, let's start with a quick introduction as to what the scheme is all about.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (or PMAY) was launched in June 2015 as an initiative taken by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, to offer affordable housing to the slum dwellers and the economically weaker sections or the urban poor in the country.

As per the PMAY Urban housing scheme, The Central Government of India has proposed to build about 2 crore houses for the Indian groups belonging to the groups listed below:

  1. The LIG(or Low Income Groups) that are living in the urban areas.
  2. The EWS (or Economically Weaker Sections) that are living in the urban areas.
  3. The MIG 1 & 2 (Middle Income Groups) that are living in the urban areas.
  4. The slum dwellers that are living in the urban areas.

Note: The houses allotted under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana subsidy will be owned by:

  1. The female in the family, or
  2. Jointly with the male

Eligibility Criteria For Availing PMAY in Haryana

The PMAY scheme is primarily aimed at the people belonging to the backward class, especially the ST/SC groups and the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) in the country. Therefore, the eligibility requirements are set by keeping these groups of citizens in mind.

An applicant has to submit adequate proof that he or she falls under any of these categories. Besides this, the PMAY Housing for All scheme also targets women empowerment irrespective of their religions or castes.

To avail the PMAY Housing for All scheme in Haryana, an applicant has to meet the eligibility criteria that are set by the PMAY board. Applicants who fall in any of these distinct groups are eligible to apply. These include:

  1. Backward Class: These are people who belong to the ST/SC/OBC communities. People under the backward class are eligible to avail for the PMAY housing scheme but will have to submit their respective community certificates as proof to enroll.
  2. EWS (Economically Weaker Sections): An applicant has to provide sufficient proof that he/she belongs to the economically weaker section of the society. The government verifies this by checking the annual income of the household. Households with up to Rs.3 lakh of annual income are defined under the EWS category.
  3. LIG (Low Income Group): An applicant who comes under this category is eligible to apply for the PMAY scheme. However, the household income has to be between Rs.3 lakh and Rs.6 lakh.
  4. MIG 1 (Medium Income Group 1): An applicant whose household income is less than Rs.12 lakh per year falls under the MIG 1 group and is eligible to apply for the PMAY scheme. He/she can get a maximum loan amount of Rs.9 lakh.
  5. MIG 2 (Medium Income Group 2): An applicant who earns less than Rs.18 lakh per year comes under the MIG 2 category. Under the PMAY scheme, he/she can get a maximum loan amount of Rs.12 lakh.
  6. Women: Even women are eligible for availing the PMAY housing scheme, provided that they either belong to the minor communities or fall under the LIG/EWS category.
  7. First House: If an applicant falls in any of the above categories, he or she certainly meets the eligibility criteria for applying but there is one more important eligibility requirement that has to be met as well. The applicant or any of his/her direct family member cannot own a proper house under his/her name or any of the direct family member's name in any region in India.
  8. Carpet Area: An applicant who falls under any of these categories: EWS, MIG 1, LIG, and MIG 2, he/she has to strictly abide by the requirements of carpet area (see the details below).
  9. Other Clauses: If the applicant has a family, then it should comprise of his/her spouse and children (unmarried). The scheme can also be availed if the applicant is single or has no women in the family. However, there are separate criteria for it. An unmarried man can avail for the PMAY but only if his mother becomes the co-applicant. But for some reasons, if there is no mother, he is still eligible to apply. There are no restrictions on that.
