To expand affordable housing access in urban areas, the Government of India has launched PMAY-U 2.0. The scheme aims to support one crore eligible families belonging from urban poor and middle-class categories over the next five years.
In the Union Budget 2024, the Finance Minister announced the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban 2.0. The scheme builds upon the learnings of PMAY-U, global best practices, and extensive consultations with States or UTs, banks, housing finance companies, and the private sector. The mission is designed to enhance the quality of life for eligible urban households by addressing affordable housing needs through four verticals, such as Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH), and the Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS).

UPMAY-U 2.0, families belonging to EWS (Economically Weaker Section), LIG (Lower Income Group), or MIG (Middle Income Group) segments are eligible to purchase or construct or rent a house. This would be applicable only if they are living in urban areas and having no pucca house either in their name or in the name of any member of their family anywhere in the country.
