To expand affordable housing access in urban areas, the Government of India has launched PMAY-U 2.0. The scheme aims to support one crore eligible families belonging from urban poor and middle-class categories over the next five years. 

What is the PMAY 2.0 Scheme? 

In the Union Budget 2024, the Finance Minister announced the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban 2.0. The scheme builds upon the learnings of PMAY-U, global best practices, and extensive consultations with States or UTs, banks, housing finance companies, and the private sector. The mission is designed to enhance the quality of life for eligible urban households by addressing affordable housing needs through four verticals, such as Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH), and the Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS). 

How to Apply for PMAY 2.0 Online? 

The steps to apply for PMAY- U 2.0 online are mentioned below: 

  1. Visit the official portal of PMAY-U 2.0. 
  1. Click on the ‘Apply for PMAY-U 2.0’ tab. 
  1. Read the instruction thoroughly to understand the scheme's details and eligibility requirements. 
  1. Next, click on ‘Click to Proceed’. 
  1. A new page will open providing the details about the document requirement. 
  1. Click on ‘Proceed’. 
  1. New page opens ‘Pre-requisite Parameters/ Eligibility Check’ 
  1. Enter the required details and click on ‘Eligibility Check’. 
  1. If the applicant fulfills the eligibility criteria, then the new page will open. 
  1. Enter the Aadhaar number and name as per the Aadhaar card. 
  1. Tick the check box to provide the consent to share the Aadhaar. 
  1. Next, click on ‘Generate OTP’ to proceed further.

  1. First, complete the application procedure. 
  1. To check the status, visit the official portal of PMAY-U 2.0 
  1. Log on to the portal. 
  1. Click on ‘Beneficiary Code or Application Number’. 
  1. Enter the code or application number. 
  1. Enter the captcha and click on ‘Show’. 

Using Aadhaar number and name as per Aadhaar: 

  1. Click on name as per Aadhaar and Aadhaar.

  • What are the eligibility criteria for seeking benefit under the scheme?

    UPMAY-U 2.0, families belonging to EWS (Economically Weaker Section), LIG (Lower Income Group), or MIG (Middle Income Group) segments are eligible to purchase or construct or rent a house. This would be applicable only if they are living in urban areas and having no pucca house either in their name or in the name of any member of their family anywhere in the country.

  • What is the difference between application status and subsidy status?

    The main difference between application status and subsidy status is that the former shows the progress and approval of the application. While subsidy status confirms financial disbursement.

  • What is the implementation period of PMAY-U 2.0?

    The scheme is implemented in 2024 for a period of 5 years, which will continue until 2029.

  • How is Women empowerment promoted under the scheme?

    Under this scheme guidelines, it is mandate that the ownership of the house to be in the name of female head of the household or in joint ownership with the male member.

  • Is it mandatory to submit caste certificate in SC and ST Category?

    All eligible beneficiaries will be provided for housing under the PMAY-U 2.0 scheme. It is mandatory to provide proof of person belonging to the preference group is required for records. The categories under the scheme are Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens, widows, single women, transgenders, persons belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) or Scheduled Tribes (ST), minorities and other weaker and vulnerable sections of the society.

    No, it is not mandatory to have Aadhaar check PMAY-U 2.0 status as it can also be checked using application ID and mobile number.

  • Will I be eligible for the scheme if I have availed benefits from housing schemes in the past?

    No, applicants will not be eligible for the PMAY-U 2.0 scheme if they have availed benefits from any housing scheme of Central Government, State Government, or Local Self Government in the last 20 years.
