    • Uber Acquires Jump to Venture the Dockless Bike-Sharing Segment

Jump Bike - a dockless bike-sharing startup - has recently merged with Uber at an undisclosed amount in order to help customers complete the first and last mile of their trips. This move will lead the ride-hail company to infiltrate the dockless bike-sharing sector and mitigate some of the risk posed by the e-scooter and e-bike service providers in the market. Jump Bikes and Uber initially started working together in February 2018 to provide the Uber customers in San Francisco the option to book a Jump bike. This move not only increased the popularity of the dockless bike-sharing service by Jump, but also recorded an increase in the average distance covered by each bike in a day.

Since Jump bikes do not require to be docked, they can be parked anywhere. Before the merger, Jump had a fleet of 250 bikes operating in San Francisco as part of the pilot program. However, Uber has received a permit for running the bike-sharing operation which allows it to increase the size of the fleet. The number of dockless bikes under Uber is expected to become double by September 2018.
