Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme for Working Women - Overview

The Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme for Working Women was launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu with the main aim of improving the mobility of working women across the state.

  1. Around 1 lakh women are likely to avail the benefits of the scheme every year.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria that must be met to avail the benefits of the scheme are mentioned below: 

  1. Residency: You must be a permanent resident of Tamil Nadu. 
  1. Age Limit: You must be between the ages 18 years and 40 years. 
  1. Annual Income: The annual income must be less than Rs.2.5 lakh. 
  1. Driving Proficiency: Must possess a valid Two-Wheeler Driving License (DL). 
  1. Family Limit: Only one woman is eligible to avail the scheme per family. 
  1. Vehicle Specification: The two-wheeler must be new, gearless, and with an engine capacity not more than 125cc. 
  1. Community Certificate must be provided for individuals under SC/ST category. 

Application Process

You can apply for the scheme offline and the process is mentioned below:

  1. Obtain Application Form: Forms, which are separate for urban and rural areas can be downloaded from the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women’s official website. You can also collect the application form from Block Offices, Urban Local Body Offices, or the Collectorate for free.
  1. Submission: The duly filled application, along with all supporting documents, must be submitted to the respective Block Offices (for rural) or Urban Local Body Offices (for urban) in person, or via Speed/Registered Post.
  1. Verification: The application undergoes a field verification process to check eligibility details like age, income, and employment.
  1. Subsidy Claim: Once the application is approved, the beneficiary purchases the two-wheeler. The subsidy is released only upon the submission of the Subsidy Claim Form along with the vehicle's Registration Certificate (RC) and the valid Driving License.
