Tricolour Ration Card Scheme

A ration card is an important legal document issued by the government in India. This card is primarily used to access subsidized food items through the Public Distribution System (PDS).

The Tricolour Ration Card Scheme was introduced by the Maharashtra government on 1 May 1999, with the aim of streamlining the distribution of essential food grains and services to residents based on their economic status.

Yellow Ration Card

White Ration Card

White ration cards are issued to the following families

  1. Families with an annual income of Rs.1 lakh or more.
  2. Any family member who owns a four-wheeler.
  3. A family that collectively owns more than 4 hectares of irrigated land.

Saffron Ration Card

The eligibility conditions for a saffron ration card are listed below

  1. Families with an annual income ranging from Rs.15,001 to Rs.1 lakh.
  2. The family must have at least four hectares of irrigated land.
  3. Nobody in the family must have a four-wheeler (excluding taxis).

Yellow Ration Card

The following individuals can apply for a yellow ration card

  1. Families with an annual income of up to Rs.15,000 (urban region).
  2. The family members must not be income taxpayers, sales taxpayers, or professional taxpayers, or they must not be eligible to pay such taxes.
  3. The family must own a residential telephone.
  4. No family member must be a chartered accountant, doctor, architect, or lawyer.
  1. Everyone in the family must not possess more than two hectares of rain-fed land, one hectare of land that is semi-irrigated, or half a hectare of land that is irrigated (double in drought-affected talukas).
  2. Abandoned women, Bidi workers, Pardhi, and Kolhati community members will be issued temporary Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration cards by the government.   
  3. The family must not own a four-wheeler.
  4. The government also issues BPL ration cards to former mill workers so that they will receive benefits from food grains that have been distributed to regular BPL families as well as food grains that are available at shops.

Annapurna Scheme

The Annapurna scheme took effect in Maharashtra on 1 April 2001. This scheme is entirely funded by the central government. This scheme provides 10 kg of food grains per month to the elderly and destitute people aged 65 years and above for free. The primary requirement for receiving the benefits of this scheme is that the applicant must not be receiving a pension under the National Old Age Pension Program or a state pension scheme.

Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY)

The Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) was implemented on 1 May 2001. It provides food grains to low-income households belonging to BPL The Mumbai Rationing Area was given a target of 9316 beneficiaries under the AAY.

Documents required to apply for a ration card

The below listed are the documents required to apply for a ration card:

  1. Duly filled in and signed the application form. 
  1. Identity proof: Voter ID, Aadhaar card, electricity bill, etc.
  1. Address proof: Voter ID, Aadhaar card, electricity bill, etc.
  1. Head of family details: Any document verifying the details of head of family.
  1. Age proof: Birth certificate, school leaving certificate, Aadhaar card, etc.
  1. Income proof: Form 16 (if salaried), income tax certificate, retirement or salary holder’s bank certificate.

  1. Any other document required by the local rationing authority.

How to apply for a ration card in Maharashtra online?

Follow the steps given below to apply for a ration card in Maharashtra:

Step 1: You need to visit the Maharashtra state government’s official website https://www.mahaonline.gov.in/.

Step 2: You need to register yourself on the official website.  

Step 3: Once you have completed registration, you need to click on the “Apply for Ration Card” link. 

Step 4: Fill in the information required on the form. 

Step 5: Once you have completed the application process, you need to download the form. 

Step 6: Next, you will have to submit the form along with all the necessary documents to your nearby ration card office. 

Once all the documents are verified and the process is completed, you will receive your ration card. 

How to apply for a ration card in Maharashtra online?

To apply for a ration card offline, you need to visit the local rationing office or the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Department to obtain the application form. You need to completely fill in the application form and submit it at the rationing office along with all the required documents. The authorities will verify your details, which may include a home visit. Upon successful verification, you will be notified to collect your ration card from the office.

    Yes, the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme enables beneficiaries residing in a different state to obtain the ration from your ration card. However, if you use all of the rations on your card, the beneficiary will be unable to use the rations in another state.
