New Delhi has made a mark for itself in the non-life insurance industry as the state with the highest insurance penetration nationwide. It recorded insurance penetration of 1.34% for the year 2013 - 2014 according to data released by the General Insurance Council (GIC).
New Delhi has a population of about 1.68 crores which is comparatively much smaller than leading states like Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Yet the 315 offices of various general insurers have brought in premiums of about Rs.5,000 crores.
