Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) IFSC Code:

DICGC (Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation) offers its customers the services of NEFT and RTGS to transfer funds of any amount quickly and safely. The IFSC code of the receiver’s bank branch must be known to use these services. The IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) is a set of 11 characters which are unique to each branch of bank in India. It was introduced by the RBI in order to make transactions clear by identifying the banks involved in the transaction. The first four characters of the IFSC code represents the name of the bank. For DICGC, this would be ‘DICG’. The fifth character of the IFSC code will be a zero which is reserved for future use. The last six characters are digits and will be unique to each branch and bank.

National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT):

NEFT transactions can be done from any of the DICGC branches. It involves filling out a form for which you will need to know the beneficiaries name, their account number, the amount to be transferred and the IFSC code of the bank branch where the funds are to be transferred to. NEFT is an online electronic payment service which works on the system of Deferred Net Settlements. That means that settlements are done in batches. On weekdays this is six times a day and on Saturdays it is three times. Depending on the availability of fund, the settlements take place. Transactions are held up and initiated at the next designated settlement time.

Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS):

RTGS is an electronic settlement system where settlements are carried out on an individual basis (without netting). It is done in real time which means that the funds are transferred as soon as the request is made by the remitting bank. The beneficiary bank must credit the beneficiary's account within two hours of receiving the funds transfer message. RTGS transactions are processed throughout the RTGS business hours. The payments made are final and irrevocable as it takes place in the books of the Reserve Bank of India. Only funds larger than Rs. 1 lac can be transferred using RTGS. There is no upper limit to the amount that you can transfer with it.

Customers can avail the RTGS facility between 9.00 hours and 16.30 hours on weekdays. On Saturdays the service is available from 9.00 hours to 12.30 hours. The service window is available for inter-bank transactions from 9.00 hours to 14.40 hours on Saturdays.

DICGC insures all kinds of bank deposits including current, fixed, recurring deposits and saving. The maximum amount that can be insured is Rs. 100,000 for each deposit in a bank. Commercial Banks and Cooperative Banks are insured by DICGC. Primary cooperative societies are however not insured by DICGC.
