IFSC, also known as, Indian Financial System Code, is a code provided by RBI to all the financial institutions under the NEFT system. This code is mainly utilised for making and receiving electronic payments like Real Time Gross System (RTGS), National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT), and Immediate Payment Service (IMPS).
IFSC Codes are basically a 11-character alphanumeric code, which are unique to all the bank branches in the country. They help easily identify and track transactions carried out through a particular account and the bank branch it was done from.
The first four characters in the IFSC code signifies the name of the bank, the fifth letter is always a zero, and the last six characters point to the bank branch and its geographical location. For example, IFSC Code for Deogiri Bank Kranti Chowk branch is YESB0DNSB01. Here, the first four alphabetic characters signify name of the bank, the fifth character is a default zero, and the last six characters point to the bank branch and the area it is located in.
While searching for IFSC and MICR Codes were relatively tougher earlier, the process has become quite simpler now. To find the IFSC and MICR codes you can run a simple google search or better to check the Bankbazaar website. This will provide all the details you are looking for.
