  • World's First Multi-Collision Airbag Revealed by Hyundai

Hyundai unveiled the world's first multi-collision airbag recently. The technology substantially improves the performance of airbags in the cases of multi-collision accidents. Hyundai stated that such kind of accidents are more common than usual, and it is important to ensure safety after the first impact.

In multi-collision accidents, the initial impact is followed by a collision with other objects like trees, poles, or other vehicles. In such accidents, the occupants of the vehicle are not seated in the normal way which makes the airbag deployment essential to avoid further injuries. Hyundai's system detects the occupant's position and deploys the secondary airbag system. The secondary system deploys faster than the initial system and keeps the occupant's safe.

If the airbags don't deploy in the primary collision, the secondary response will be quicker than the first one. Though Hyundai hasn't revealed which model will debut with the multi-collision system, it will be installed in all the Hyundai and Kia vehicles.
