What is Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)?

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is a flagship education program launched by the Government of India in 2001 to provide free and compulsory elementary education to all children between the ages of 6 to 14 years. The scheme was a major step to achieve the goals set under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009

It has now been subsumed under the broader Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, which integrates SSA, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), and Teacher Education (TE).
