What is PM Kusum Yojana?

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) is a government initiative launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to promote solar energy in the agriculture sector. 

It aims to reduce the dependency of farmers on diesel and grid electricity by providing solar-powered irrigation pumps and promoting solar energy production.

Components of PM Kusum Yojana

Component A: Solar Power Plants (Grid-connected)

  1. Installation of solar power plants (up to 2 MW) on barren or agricultural land. 
  1. Farmers can sell the generated power to DISCOMs. 

Component B: Standalone Solar Pumps

  1. Distribution of standalone off-grid solar-powered irrigation pumps up to 7.5 HP. 
  1. Useful for areas with no grid connectivity. 

Component C: Grid-Connected Agriculture Pumps

  1. Solarisation of existing grid-connected pumps. 
  1. Excess power can be exported to the grid. 

PM Kusum Yojana Subsidy Details

  1. 60% of the cost is borne by the central & state governments. 
  1. 30% loan assistance is provided to the farmer. 
  1. Farmer contributes only 10% of the total cost.

  1. Should own cultivable agricultural land.
