Features of the PM-AASHA Scheme

The PM AASHA is a central sector scheme for farmers that offers many benefits to farmers. The three major components and the features of the scheme are as follows:

  1. Price Support Schemes (PSS): Price Support Schemes are schemes to ensure a minimum support price for farmers. Crops such as oilseeds, notified pulses, and copra are bought for the minimum support price from farmers by the Central Nodal Agencies (CNAs) in this scheme. It provides a government guarantee to lending banks by the central government. This scheme was implemented at the request of the state UTS.
  1. Price Deficit Payment Schemes (PDPS): In this scheme, farmers receive direct payment for the difference between the Minimum Support Price and the market price when the market price is lower than the MSP.
  1. Price Stabilisation Fund (PSF): This scheme provides farmers with working capital and other expenses for the procurement and distribution of perishable products. Crops such as tomatoes and horticulture products are also included in this scheme.
  1. Market Intervention Scheme: The Market Intervention is an ad hoc scheme that aims to close the price gap and to resist price volatility. It protects farmers from selling off horticulture products and perishable crops such as tomatoes and potatoes at a loss, when prices decline. This is generally implemented at the request of the state government.
  1. Pilot of Private Procurement and Stockist Scheme (PPPS): This scheme offers the opportunity for the private sector to participate in the procurement of crops. This is a pilot scheme that will be broadly implemented after assessing its effectiveness.
