Many individuals may think of the British Pound or the United States Dollar as the world’s highest currencies. However, the value of the currency depends on the exchange rate and not how wealthy the country is. For example, the United States Dollar is not the highest currency globally even though it is the most traded.

  • Oman’s national currency is the Omani Rial. The value of the currency rose due to the increase in the oil export from the country.

  • Jordan Dinar
  • Jordan’s national currency, the JOD was earlier known as the Palestinian pound. In 1950, it became the country’s official currency.

  • The GBP is the oldest currency that is still used and is the fourth highest currency that is traded globally.

  • Gibraltar’s national currency is known as the Gibraltar Pound and has the same value as the British Pound. In Gibraltar, both the GBP and GIP can be used.

  • Cayman Islands Dollar
  • Cayman Islands’ national currency is the Cayman Islands Dollar. The KYD is the seventh highest currency worldwide.

  • Euro
  • In 19 countries, the official currency is the Euro. Some of the countries where the Euro is the official currency are Spain, France, and Germany.

  • Swiss Franc
  • Liechtenstein’s and Switzerland’s national currency is the Swiss Franc. The Swiss Franc is the seventh highest currency worldwide.

  • US Dollar
  • Many commercial banks and central banks in the world hold the US Dollar as the primary reserve currency. The USD is the tenth strongest currency in the world.
