• How to Start a Common Service Center (CSC)?

    The government of India has made an announcement about the setting up of a Common Service Centers (CSCs). The centres will provide good governance and services for the people staying in the rural areas. The networks will be set up across the nation within remote areas and villages.

    CSCs are points of access where people living in rural and remote locations can use the e-governance system to connect to government initiatives and services. These points provide people with the convenience of getting connected to different government schemes as well as services through the internet connection.

    If you want to start a CSC in your locality, you should fulfil certain eligibility criteria to participate in CSC Scheme.

    Eligibility Criteria to Participate in CSC Scheme

    The following are the eligibility criteria for Common Service Center (CSC):


    An applicant should be at least 18 years of age limit.


    An individual should pass the Matriculation Level Examination or equivalent from a recognized board.

    Infrastructure Required to Start a CSC Center

    If you want to start a CSC in your area, you should be eligible to participate in the CSC Scheme. Moreover, if you are eligible, you should have the required infrastructure given below:

    The common Service Center Scheme has been designed by the Government for providing e-services to the citizens by establishing a common centre under the Digital India Programme. Eligible applicants can start CSC by approaching the Service Center Agency (SCA) of that particular area.

    The following are the required CSC infrastructure:

    • The building/room has a place of 100 to 150 square feet.
    • Two printers (Dot Matrix + Inkjet).
    • Webcam.
    • RAM of at least 512 MB storage capacity.
    • V-SAT Connectivity. Wireless/ Wired.
    • Hard Disc Drive of starting 120 GB.
    • CD/DVD Drive.
    • Biometric or IRIS authentication scanner from banking services.

    The total estimated cost per CSC will be 1.25 to 1.50 lakh except for building and land.

    How to apply for CSC Center?

    The following are the steps that are to be followed to apply for CSC Center:

    • To register for CSC or to complete the application process, the applicants have to visit the online web portal http://register.csc.gov.in/. Once you visit the main page, you have to click on “Apply”.
    • Enter your details related to your Aadhar card.
    • Next, enter the Captcha and click on “Submit”.
    • You will receive a One Time Password (OTP) on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP in the space provided.
    • Enter your details on the Kiosk Tab which includes the Kiosk centre, Gram Panchayat details, and location.
    • Enter your bank details under the “Bank” tab.
    • Enter the scanned copies of your documents and geotag the photos of your CSC.
    • Click on “Submit”.
    • You will receive a verification email via your registered email. You need to save the application number for your future reference.

    CSC Re-Registration and Status

    The following are the steps of re-registration and status of CSC:

    • Visit http://registrtion.csc.gov.in/cscregistration/RegStatus.aspx.
    • Click on the page and look for the registration or status option.
    • The applicants should provide details related to an email ID, ID number and details regarding biometric information Aadhar ID.
    • Next, click on “Submit”.
