History of the company
JK Tyres & Industries Ltd was founded in West Bengal in 1974. In 1982, the company came into a technical agreement with General Tire. In 1992, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd opened an office in Moscow, with the company's subsidiaries opened in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.
JK Tyre, in the year 2000, made a marketing alliance with the Indian Oil Corporation in order to set up service centres and sales outlets in the Indian Oil petrol pumps. The name of the company changed from J.K. Industries Ltd to JK Tyres & Industries Ltd in 2007.
The company acquired the Tornel plant in Mexico in 2008, setting up a new OTR plant in Mysore in 2010. Two years later in 2012, JK Tyres & Industries Ltd set up a new plant in Chennai. In 2016, the company became the first in India to produce 10 million radial tyres for buses and trucks. Soon after this, in 2017, the company entered the two-wheeler industry and launched tyres for scooters and Royal Enfield bikes.
