For the Q1 FY 2018-19, the net profit of Swan Energy Limited was reported to be at Rs.33.54 crore - a tenfold improvement over the net profit reported for the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.
  3. Consequently, the company's earnings per share (EPS) also moved up from Rs.0.13 to Rs.1.37 YoY.

  1. On January 2, 2018, the opening share price of Swan Energy Limited was Rs.193.35 on the NSE. Over the course of the month, the shares gained a little over 15% to reach their 52-week high at Rs.235.95 on the NSE on January 19. This meteoric surge was soon followed by a drop in the stock price and consequently, the shares descended back to their previous levels at Rs.195.
  2. Through the course of February, the scrip went down in a gradual manner, eventually descending into the Rs.180 region. The shares continued to exhibit their bearish trend in the month of March as well, with the closing stock price of Swan Energy on March 30, 2018, being Rs.178.25.
  3. The scrip lost marginally over the course of April to finish the month at Rs.170.90. Through most of May, investors exercised caution as the shares maintained a steady heading above the Rs.170 mark. The scrip didn't incur any sharp losses in this period and the stocks were traded at levels varying from Rs.170 - Rs.172.
  4. It wasn't until the month of June that the prices slumped further and soon, they shares found themselves being traded in the Rs.150 region. However, the prices recovered marginally in July and the shares touched the Rs.160 mark again. Over the course of July and August, the Swan Energy Limited shares were traded at levels varying from Rs.158 - Rs.162.
  5. In early September, the company announced a final dividend of 10%. This announcement was soon followed by a sharp nosedive and over the remainder of September, the scrip lost a little over 10% to fall below the Rs.130 mark. The prices suffered further in early October and the scrip reached its 52-week low at Rs.112.95 on the NSE. As of October 8, the shares were seen trading hands at levels close to Rs.119.

  1. At the start of 2016, the stock price of Swan Energy Limited was close to Rs.68 on the NSE. Over the course of the first quarter of the calendar year, the price dipped marginally and lost close to 10%. The closing price of the scrip on March 31, 2016, was Rs.60.25.
  2. Things didn't change significantly over the course of April and May either. The shares continued to go down and by early June, they were being traded at levels above Rs.58. However, the month of July brought some joy to the investors as the scrip made small gains to ascend back to its previous levels above Rs.60.
  3. A similar trend was seen through the course of August and September as well. The shares maintained their bearings above the Rs.60 mark. In the same period, the company announced a final dividend of 5%. However, in the final week of September, the share price spiked sharply by more than 20% to ascend into the Rs.70 region.
  4. By the end of the first week of October 2016, the shares had crossed the psychologically important mark of Rs.100. The shares gained another 50% over the remainder of the year to cross the Rs.150 mark by early December. The scrip had a phenomenal year and the closing price at the end of the year was Rs.154.15 on the NSE.
  5. 2017 started on a positive note for the investors as the shares made steady gains to cross the Rs.190 mark. This rise, however, was soon followed by a bear run that resulted in sharp losses for the investors. By the end of March, the scrip had lost more than 25% to go below the Rs.150 mark.
  6. The scrip was highly bearish through the months of May to July as well. In these three months, the shares lost another 10% gradually to fall below the Rs.135 mark. However, there were a couple of instances in this period when the stocks gained marginally.
  7. The month of August was along the same lines. The stock price of Swan Energy Limited plummeted further to touch the Rs.115 mark on the NSE. However, there was a massive upturn in the prices over the remainder of the year. In September, the company announced a final dividend of 8%.
  8. By late October, the shares had crossed the Rs.150 mark once again and the same, by early December, were inching closer to the Rs.190 mark. The scrip managed to make decent gains over the remainder of the year and the closing price on December 29, 2017, was Rs.190.90.

  1. Swan Energy Limited is a company that is engaged in three distinct verticals - textiles, real estate, and energy. Of these three, the company has been in the textiles business for more than 100 years while it is fairly new in the remaining two segments. The company conducts its real estate business through two, distinct wholly-owned subsidiaries. These, in turn, are respectively engaged in the commercial and residential real estate segments.
  2. Coming to the energy segment, Swan Energy Limited has an ambitious plan to develop India's first floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) at Jafrabad, Gujarat. The capacity of this is expected to be at 5 MMTPA. It is certainly an exciting plan, considering that the energy demand in India is set to grow considerably in the future and Swan Energy Limited is placing itself in a very good position to meet that demand. However, the end result will be seen only when the project is fully executed. To implement the same, the company has signed technical agreements with Mitsui OSK Lines, Tokyo, Japan.
  3. Considering the financial performance of the company, for the quarter ended on June 30, 2018, the company reported an increase of more than seven times in its revenue, YoY. Consequently, the net profit after tax jumped up from Rs.3.10 crore to Rs.33.54 crore, YoY. It is worth mentioning that a significant proportion of this profit came from the company's operations in the real estate segment.
  4. As for the performance of the company's stock, it has had a decent run over the course of the last couple of years. In 2016, the shares gained significantly to deliver returns close to 150%. 2017 wasn't that remarkable in comparison to its predecessor although, the shares did move up by roughly 15%. In 2018, however, the scrip has been highly bearish and since the start of the year, the shares have lost close to 35%.
  5. At its current levels, the Swan Energy shares make for an attractive buy from a long-term perspective. As the company moves ahead with its plan to fully develop the FSRU in Gujarat, we can expect the same to be reflected in its financial performance. History of the Company

The company was incorporated in the year 1909 as Swan Mills Limited. It began its operations as a manufacturer and marketer of polyester and cotton textiles in India. In 2004, there was a change in the management of the company following which, it forayed into the real estate sector. In 2008, the company took another major step towards diversifying its operations and it entered into the energy segment. Around the same time, it was renamed to Swan Energy Limited.
