PM JANMAN Scheme (Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan)

The Government of India launched the PM Janman with the aim that the lives of tribal people respectively get better.  PM Janman scheme aims to provide solar-based electricity and other necessities to tribal people.

The Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) focuses on eleven critical interventions across nine ministries for implementation. One key aspect of the mission is the New Solar Power Scheme, targeting Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) Habitations/Villages.

With a financial outlay of Rs. 515 crore, the scheme aims to electrify one lakh un-electrified households (HHs) in PVTG areas across 18 states. It provides off-grid solar systems where grid electricity is not feasible and offers solar lighting in 1500 Multi-Purpose Centres (MPCs) in PVTG areas lacking grid access.

Salient Features of PM JANMAN 

The salient features of PM JANMAN are given below: 

  1. Solar Home Lighting System (SHLS) - Scattered un-electrified households (HHs) in PVTG areas will receive free installation of SHLS, complete with LED bulbs and fan, along with onsite maintenance for five years. 
  2. Solar Mini Grids - PVTG habitation clusters will benefit from Solar Mini-Grids, comprising appropriate capacity, battery bank, distribution lines, and appliances like LED bulbs and fans for each household. The ministry offers a CFA support of up to Rs.50,000 per un-electrified household covered under the mini-grids. 
  3. Solarisation of Multi-Purpose Centers (MPC) - Identified MPCs lacking grid connectivity will be electrified through off-grid solar power packs, with the ministry providing CFA up to Rs. 1 lakh per MPC, covering the entire system cost.

Under the PM Janman Yojana, applicants will receive various benefits outlined as follows: 

  1. Eligible applicants will receive a new house to replace their old one. 
  2. Access to electricity and water pipe facilities will be provided. 
  3. Free healthcare treatment will be extended to citizens. 
  4. Affordable prices for essential food grains will be ensured.
