The Registration of Birth Act 1969 makes it mandatory for every citizen of Karnataka to register births and provide their child with legal recognition. It also helps the government by providing demographic data for national planning.
A birth certificate is an essential document to establish a person’s identity and a door to get benefits of all the social services provided in India. It helps in getting other documents like passport, voter card, or driving license.
Every childbirth should be registered within 21 days of the birth.
The following documents are required to register a birth in Karnataka:

Step 1: Visit sevasinshu.karnataka.gov.in website and click on Department and services.
Step 2: Navigate to Planning Program Monitoring and Statistics Department and select application for birth certificate.
Step 3: Click to apply online.
Step 4: To log in, enter username, password, and captcha.
Step 5 (a): If already registered previously, select “yes” and type the registration number and click on search. :
Step 5 (b): If not registered, choose the option “no.” Enter the name of child, father’s name, mother’s name, and click on 'search' to get all the details.
Step 6: If all the details appeared are correct, click on yes, enter number of copies to print. Fill in the captcha and click on 'submit'.
Step 7: Click on make payment, then select the mode of payment, and do the process.
Step 8: After payment is successful, an acknowledgement slip will be generated.
Step 9: To download the birth certificate, go to sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in and click on registered user log in.
Step 10: A log in screen will appear; fill in all the details including username, password and captcha then click “submit.”
Step 11: On the left side of the box, click 'Track application status', and fill reference number and click on 'Get data'.
Step 12: Click on the status of the application. If it’s delivered, click on it.
Step 13: A table will appear. Check below Issued documents and click on output certificate.
Step 14: The birth certificate will be downloaded.
Step 15: Click on print for hard copy.
A birth certificate doesn’t need any renewal so it's a one-time process and is valid for a lifetime.
The time limit for birth registration in Karnataka is 21 days, but late registration can be done after late fee is submitted.
Two websites: eJanMa and sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in are used for registration of birth certificate in Karnataka.
You can download birth certificate online in Karnataka from sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in portal.
The documents required for Karnataka birth certificate registration are Form 1, declaration, proof of address, RCH card or birth summary.
There is no fee charged if the birth gets registered within 21 days. But a late fee of Rs.2 is charged if the birth gets registered after a 21-day period.
