Visa is a kind of official document or certificate of endorsement on your passport indicating that you are allowed to enter, leave and stay in a specific country for a specified period of time or permanently. How to Apply for a Visa?

List of Required Identification Papers:

Given below is the list of identification papers that are necessary to establish an individual’s identity as Bhutanese, Nepalese or a citizen of India in case they are entering Bhutan, Nepal or India by air.

For Indian Nationals:

  • A National Passport that is valid.
  • Photo ID card that has been provided by the Indian government or State government or Union Territory Administration to their employees/Voter ID card provided by the Election Commission of India.
  • Emergency Certificate that has been provided by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
  • Identity Certificate that has been provided by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
  • Individuals above the age of 65 or below the age of 15 will not have to provide approved documents of identity but will have to furnish a document with their photograph confirming their identity and age such as Driving License, CGHS Card, PAN Card and Ration Card and so on.
  • Children who are between the ages of 15 to 18 may be allowed to travel between Nepal/Bhutan and India based on the identity Certificate provided by their School Principal.

For Bhutanese/Nepalese Nationals:

  • Valid National Passport.
  • Certificate of Nepalese Citizenship (for Nepalese nationals).
  • Certificate of Bhutanese Citizenship (for Bhutanese nationals).
  • Voter Identification Card for Nepalese nationals that has been issued by the Election Commission of Nepal.
  • Voter Identification Card for Bhutanese nationals that has been issued by the Election Commission of Bhutan.
  • When necessary, individuals will have to provide a photo-identity certificate that is of limited validity. This document will have to be issued by the Royal Nepalese Mission in India.

  • For children between the ages of 10 to 18, a photo identity card provided by the Principal of their School is needed as long as parents have valid travel certificates and documents. For children (Bhutanese and Nepalese nationals) below the age of 10, such documents are not required.

Visa exemption refers to the process of entering country without having a visa .It is the same thing like visa free entry. Not all countries get visa free entry. Visa free entries allowed between two countries based on their mutual agreement. For example, certain commonwealth countries do not require tourist visas to enter to other commonwealth countries.   • 200 emergency visas provided to Afghans by India

    More than 200 Afghans were provided emergency vias by India to allow them to enter the country after Taliban took control of Afghanistan prompting many to flee. The people coming over from Afghanistan have been granted the residential permit for a year on a case-to-case basis. India back in August had brought into effect an emergency e-Visa category which allowed the Afghan people to apply for visa as they left the country to protect themselves from the clutches of Taliban. These types of visas are called ‘X-Misc Visa’ and will be valid for six months granted only after giving clearance by the security.

    India opens borders to foreign countries after 20 months of restrictions due to Covid-19 On 15 November 2021, India opened its borders to full vaccinated visitors from other countries after nearly 20 months of the Covid-19 induced travel restrictions. Tourist visas were earlier issued to fully vaccinated citizens of countries which had reciprocal agreements with India who started arriving from 15 October on charter flights. Now, visitors from the pre-approved countries can apply for their tourist visas online. They are supposed to self-monitor their health for two weeks upon arrival in India. However, citizens from countries such as China, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Brazil, as well as from the European Union, have to get a Covid-19 test upon arrival in the country. India had earlier also offered the first half million tourist visas totally free.

  • Visas will not be issued to travellers entering India through land routes

    According to the Indian tourist visa guidelines updated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), visas will not be issued to tourists who enter India through land routes. Therefore, tourists from India’s neighbouring countries cannot visit the country on a tourist visa. As per the update, a single-entry type visa with a 30 days validity will be issued. Tourists from neighbouring countries can enter India through sea and air routes as visas are not being issued for land routes. The guidelines updated by MHA also stated that tourists from foreign countries will require a fresh tourist visa to enter India. Free tourist visas will be issued to the first five lakh visa applicants. The Indian government has taken this initiative to encourage tourism.

  • Rare lottery system for IT professionals seeking Visa

    A rare second lottery for the H-1B visa will be conducted by UCIS to help applicants successfully apply for visa. This move will allow hundreds of Indian IT professionals who could not make it in the first election to seek visa for a second time. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)a computerised draw of lots for H-1B visas will be conducted early this year. USCIS said the applicants must fill their H-1B cap-subject petition at the correct service center. Currently, the option to file their form online is not available.

  • Maldives to allow tourists from South Asia from July 15

    On Tuesday, Maldives tourism ministry tweeted that it will restart issuing visa on arrival to tourists from South Asia including India starting July 15. Tourists will need a negative RT-PCR test to enter the country. It needs to be mentioned here that from April 27, Maldives had barred travellers from India from staying at tourist facilities in islands with local population. It later barred travellers from South Asia from entering the country as the impact of the delta variant became known. With the number of covid cases coming down in India, countries like Maldives and Switzerland are slowly reopening its doors for Indians. Switzerland has already started allowing fully-vaccinated travellers from India to visit the country without any quarantine.

  • Five lakh tourist visas offered free by India to boost tourism

    The Central Government has announced 5 lakh free tourist visas as part of a package of economic relief measures to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in India. In a presentation, the Ministry of Finance presentation informed that the number of tourists who had visited India in 2019 was 10.93 million which amounted to a revenue of $30.098 billion. The average stay for a foreign tourist in the country was 21 days and the average daily spend amounted to Rs.2400 or $34. The 5 lakh tourist visas will be issued for free after visa issuance commences. This will be available only once per tourist and till the five lakh visas are issued or till 31 March 2022, whichever comes first, with the total financial impact on the government being Rs.100 crore. There will also be government financial support for travel and tourism stakeholders which includes 11,000 registered tourist guides and others. This will be in the form of working capital or personal loans that will be provided to people in the tourism sector with 100% guarantee and waiver of prepayment charges with no processing charges. This Loan Guarantee Scheme will be beneficial to approximately 10,700 tourism stakeholders and tourist guides recognised by the Ministry of Tourism as well as by the State governments.

  • The United Kingdom and India form a new migration partnership

    India and the United Kingdom have signed a new migration partnership agreement termed the ‘Migration and Mobility Partnership’. This will benefit both the countries, especially the British and Indian population who live and work in each other’s countries. This partnership will also boost work visas for Indian nationals. The Home Secretary Priti Patel and the Indian Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar were involved in the signing of the partnership. With this signing, the two countries also will be cooperating to combat immigration fraud and crime.

    This Migration and Mobility Partnership will provide freedom and more opportunities for many people from the United Kingdom and India who wish to travel to each other’s countries to live and work. Under the agreement, young British and Indian professionals can work and live in each other’s country for 2 years.

  • Indian IT professionals Joe Biden lets H-1B visa bans expire

    In the month of June 2020, the then American President Donald Trump had issued a proclamation wherein the entry of a host of temporary applicants were suspended in the US.

    The suspension of the visa categories included a number of temporary and non-immigrant visas as well as the H-1B visa category. Trump had notified that these visas posed a risk to the labour market in the US during the national lockdown owing to the COVID-19 crisis and economic recovery. However, the US President Joe Biden has lifted the ban recently by letting the notification expire. This move will be beneficial for a number of Indian IT professionals. The former president had extended the order further on 31 December 2021 and it was extended till 31 March 2021. Joe Biden did not issue a new proclamation for the ban on the H-1B visas to make it continue after 31 March 2021.

    The new visa regime as amended by the United States government will be giving priority to the visa applications of those employers where the ‘preferred wage equals or exceeds’ the prevailing level in the area of employment. This will be done for 65,000 regular visas and around 20,000 advanced degree exemption visas. The United States government will also be taking into account the skill set of the applicant. As per the USCIS, the salaries will be the best indicators regarding whether the employers will be paying a higher wage to the most deserving or qualified candidate. However, the government body will not be undercutting the jobs that could be done by workers in the United States, preventing them from unemployment.
