The Regional Passport Office (RPO) of Bengaluru in a bid to ease the load on the five existing Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) has opened 11 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) in the year of 2018 alone. The new POPSKs that have been opened since January this year are at Shivamogga, Ballari, Davangere, Belagavi, Raichur, Bidar, Tumakuru, Udupi, Gadag, Hassan and Vijayapura. Bharath Kumar Kuthati, the regional passport officer has stated that the response received by the new POPSKs have been tremendous with the newly opened POPSKs releasing 50 appointments on a daily basis. Karnataka has the distinction of having only one Regional Passport Office (RPO) unlike other states in the country. • KDA Requests The Word “Passport” To Be Written In Kannada As Well

The KDA (Kannada Development Authority) has recently been in the media after it demanded the passports that are issued within Karnataka must mandatorily be in the Kannada language. SG Siddaramaiah, KDA’s chairman has said that they would meet the officials of the RPO (Regional Passport Office) probably by next week to appeal.

The KDA demands that all Karnataka’s Regional Passport Offices should issue passports with details mandatorily written in Kannada. Like English and Hindi, even Kannada must also be included in each passport that is issued from now on. Right from the passport’s cover page to its inner pages, they want all the details to be mentioned in Kannada.

He adds that it is all about a region’s identity and keeping up its pride. Also, it would be one of the best ways to promote it internationally as well.
