    • HDFC to merge its general and health insurance

      On 12 November 2020, HDFC Ltd. announced that the IRDAI had given the final nod to merge HDFC ERGO General Insurance and HDFC ERGO Health Insurance. By the end of September 2020, the National Company Law Tribunal had given the nod for the merger of HDFC ERGO General Insurance and HDFC ERGO Health Insurance. The health and general insurance companies are subsidiaries of HDFC Ltd. As per the scheme, HDFC ERGO Health will dissolve without winding up. Once the merger is completed, 50.58% of HDFC ERGO’s stake will be held by HDFC.

    • Rise in the number of health and life insurance policy buyers in India

      Insurance consumers in the state of Karnataka are now investing more in the term insurance policies and health insurance policies after being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

      As per a newly published report, the sale of term insurance policies in the state have shot up by as much as 54% in the month of April 2020. It has also witnessed a growth of around 32% between April 2020 and September 2020. The overall year-on-year growth which has been recorded in this regard is 92% in the state.

      The health insurance sector has seen a rise in demand which has also resulted in higher premiums which are due to various inclusions of mandatory coverages which were not included before. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India had previously announced many tweaks to the guidelines of health insurance.

      One of the major significant changes is that insurers will not be allowed from excluding conditions such as ones which arise due to hazardous activities, treatment for mental illnesses, age-related conditions such as cataract, etc.

      These comprehensive health insurance plans have to cover these along with other ailments such as behaviour and neurodevelopment disorders. However, due to this, the premiums have increased by up to 45%. Analysts have mentioned that the average price is expected to increase by around 15-20% across products.

    • New health insurance policies unveiled by ICICI Lombard

      Three health insurance policies have been unveiled by ICICI Lombard. The new policies have been designed for Freepaycard members. Under the policies, Freepaycard members will get an assured amount in the case of hospitalisation or injury for treatment. The policies start at a premium of Rs.379. According to ICICI Lombard, the new policies will be available at the insurer’s partner outlets. The three variants available are Special Vector-borne Disease-related Hospitalisation Benefit, Death Benefit, and Hospital Daily Cash Benefit. According to the Executive Director of ICICI Lombard General Insurance, the company is delighted to join hands with Freepaycard to offer several products to its customers. Freepaycard members who are between the ages of 18 years and 65 years can purchase the policy.

      India has seen the number of coronavirus cases increase since the outbreak. Due to this, the IRDAI launched a COVID-19 specific product known as Corona Kavach. The IRDAI has mandated both health and general insurers to offer the policy. Under the policy, individuals cannot avail lifelong renewability benefits. Individuals between the ages of 18 years and 65 years can purchase the cover. The cover can be bought online by visiting the official website of the insurer. Some of the insurers that offer the policy are Star Insurance, SBI General Insurance Company, and HDFC Ergo. Once on the official website of the insurer, you can search for Corona Kavach Policy. Next, enter details such as your name, contact number, age, and date of birth. Select the sum insured and tenure. Next, you must make the payment. Once the payment has been made, the policy details will be sent to your email ID.

    • Puducherry to launch health insurance scheme for 2.17 lakh non-Ayushman Bharat families

      The health department of Puducherry is set to launch a health insurance scheme for 2.17 lakh families not covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme by December 2020.

      Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao held a meeting with private medical colleges, along with Health Secretary Dr T Arun and other officials, asked for their cooperation in providing treatment to the families through the insurance company.

      The Health Minister said that 1.3 lakh families have already been covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Now, 2.17 lakh families will be covered under the scheme. Those working in quasi government bodies like local bodies and cooperatives will also get coverage as per the scheme. The health insurance coverage provided will be Rs.5 lakh.

      I taken a health insurance from STAR HEALTH on last 6 months back which was taken via online. It covers my whole family of 3 members for the total amount of 5. The premium amount need to pay of 12K. The tenure period of 1 year. I have not used this card much. I haven't done any claim yet.

      I have taken a health insurance policy from Bajaj Allianz which was taken for my mother. Policy coverage value was Rs. 1L and the premium its a one time payment, i got a offer because i am maintain CREDIT SCORE good. Still there is a no claim and i paid 3 years back, during renewal time i am not getting any calls from insurance company. This policy covers 200 hospital 30-50% in all hospital can get a claim.

      My personal need I taken health insurance from RELIGARE on 2 years back. Actually my previous company taken health insurance got lapse, hence for better option I continued with same need to pay the premium of 5K. It covers up to myself. The coverage amount of 5L, since there is no claim yet I got bonus of 10% so as of now 5.5L. They tied up with many hospitals and cash less treatment is applicable.

      This is an individual policy, cover fro myself and this is from Max Bupa. Yearly i am paying premium of Rs. 3000 and the coverage value of Rs. 5L and still there is a no claim. Every year i am getting 5% no claim bonus and this is a life long policy. Its a tax benefit plan for major and listed hospitals can avail a cash less, if non listed have to pay then we can reimburse.

      My employer has given me a health insurance policy from ROYAL SUNDARAM and they have provided me a coverage amount of Rs. 3L. It covers myself and my spouse are covered in this policy.The premium amount need to pay of 7.5K on yearly basis. They have a cashless facility with many hospital.

      For my personal purpose, I have taken a health insurance from TATA AIG on 3 years back. On yearly, I use to renew the policy which I need to pay the premium amount of 20K via online. It covers up to myself. The sum assured amount is 2.4L. They tied up with limited hospitals only and there is no cashless treatment.

      I am paying about Rs. 20k yearly for health insurance to PARAMOUNT. This is group policy and the coverage of Rs. 10L since 5 years i am using this health insurance. I went for a claim which was reimbursed. The main factor is they are asking lots of documents which they need to make it simple.

      I have received the Bajaj Allianz mediclaim policy from Bajaj Finserv on EMI basis. Cashless facility is available and am paying Rs.640 for a month. This policy is not available in the market. I wish if their executive were more polite and helpful. Its a self policy which covers 5L. Am renewing this policy from last 3years.

      ICICI offered me a health insurance and this is a group policy which covered for Rs. 4L. This insurance will cover all types of critical illness and day care treatment, still there is no claim with ICICI Lombard. I can avail cashless treatment with the listed hospitals.
