    Apollo Munich Health Insurance Renewal:

    To renew your health insurance policy, log into the Apollo Munich Health Insurance website with your email or member ID and password. You can also login using your policy number. The policy schedule contains a unique policy number which changes every year on renewal. For instance, if your policy number is 6000013840, at the time of renewal every year, a number will be added to it like 6000013840-01 or 6000013840-02. At the time of renewing your policy online, enter the exact policy number as mentioned in the policy schedule.

    Renewal payment can be made 60 days prior to the policy expiry date. Renewal premium is calculated based on the age of the insured at the time of renewal. You will be given a 30-day grace period within which to renew your policy. Renewal post grace period requires you to apply fresh for the policy and you lose all benefits accrued under the previous policy. At the time of renewal, you can choose a different policy, change the sum insured, add dependants such as spouse and children, remove dependents, attach or remove rider policy, and change policy term.

    Apollo Munich Optima Restore is an award-winning product that ensures the policy covers the insured members for the entire duration of the policy term even after a claim has been made and the sum insured has been exhausted by a member. Apollo Munich Optima Restore is an innovative health insurance policy, designed for individuals and families. It offers some unique benefits, namely:

    • Stay Active: This benefit offers premium discounts to customers who lead an active lifestyle.
    • Multiplier: For every claim-free year, the sum insured will increase by 50% of the basic cover in the following year.
    • Restore: If a family member exhausts the full floater sum insured during the policy term, the insurer will restore the entire amount at no extra charge.

    Eligibility: Individuals from the age of 5 to 65 years are eligible for the policy. Up to 6 members can be covered under a single policy. The policy term is 1 to 2 years. You can get a 7.5% discount if you opt for a 2-year term.

    Benefits: This policy covers in-patient hospitalisation, pre and post-hospitalisation, day-care procedures, domiciliary treatment, organ donor treatment, daily cash benefit for choosing a shared hospital room at a network hospital, ambulance fees, preventive health checkup, and arrange for second opinion in the case of a critical illness diagnosis. You can also opt for Critical Advantage Rider that covers treatment expenses for 8 major critical illnesses such as cancer, bone marrow transplant, neurosurgery, heart valve replacement, etc.

    Exclusions: This policy has an initial waiting period of 30 days for all illnesses except an accidental injury. Pre-existing diseases will be covered after a 3-year waiting period. There is a 2-year waiting period for specific diseases like joint replacement surgery, hernia, cataract, etc. Congenital diseases, cosmetic surgery , HIV/AIDS, mental disorder, and weight control treatments are excluded under the policy. Other exclusions include nuclear threat, war, alcohol or drug abuse, pregnancy related treatment, dental treatment, etc.

    Renewal: Optima Restore offers a lifelong renewability option. There is a 30-day grace period to renew your policy. Renewal premium is subject to change with IRDAI approval.

    Apollo Munich Renewal:

    All health insurance plans offered by Apollo Munich comes with a lifelong renewability option. The maximum age for renewal is 70 years for additional coverage of critical illness. In the case of continuous renewal, the waiting period will reduce by one year. Sum insured can be enhanced only at the time of policy renewal as long as a claim hasn't been made.

    Apollo Munich Exclusions:

    Exclusions of the health insurance plans offered by Apollo Munich Health Insurance includes:

    • An initial waiting period of 30 days for all illnesses except an accidental injury.
    • A 3-year waiting period for pre-existing diseases.
    • Coverage for HIV/AIDS treatment is excluded.
    • Treatments for mental disorders, cosmetic surgery, congenital diseases, and weight control are not covered.
    • Non-allopathic treatments are not covered.
    • Treatments for substance abuse such as alcohol and drugs are not covered.
    • Hospitalisation due to war or nuclear threat is not covered.
    • Dental treatment and pregnancy-related treatment are not covered.
    • There is a 2-year waiting period for specific illnesses such as hernia, cataract, joint replacement, etc.
    • Experimental treatments are not covered.   

    Apollo Munich Health Insurance FAQs:

    1. What do you mean by pre and post-hospitalization?

      Pre-hospitalisation is where the policy covers medical expenses incurred due to an illness during the first 60 days prior to hospitalisation. Post-hospitalisation is where the policy covers medical expenses incurred in the 180 days after the discharge from hospital.

    2. How can I add my family members to my existing policy?

      Download the Change Request form from the Apollo Munich Health Insurance website, fill it, and submit it at the nearest branch office along with the revised premium. Mid-term policy addition is allowed only for a newborn baby or newly-wed spouse. Other additions can be done only at the time of renewal.

    3. I want to increase my sum insured. How do I go about it?

      To increase the sum insured, download the Change Request form from the Apollo Munich Health Insurance website, fill it, and submit it at the nearest branch office along with the revised premium. Sum insured can be increased or decreased only at the time of renewal. In the case of health insurance portability, sum insured can't be increased if a claim has been made in the previous policy.

    4. What is Restore Benefit in the Apollo Munich Health Plan?

      Apollo Munich Health Plan offers a unique policy benefit called the restore benefit wherein if an insured member has exhausted the sum insured in a policy year, the insurer will restore the basic sum insured at the time of renewal in order to ensure all the members are covered until the end of the policy term. Sum insured will be restored only once per year.

    5. Will the insured member have to send a request to AMHI for restoration of sum insured?

      The basic sum insured will automatically be restored by the insured once it is exhausted. The policyholder will receive an endorsement of the same.

    6. How many times can the Restore Benefit be triggered in policy year and policy lifetime?

      In a policy year, the restore benefit can be triggered only once. Restore benefit can be triggered once a year till the end of the policy term.

    7. What is multiplier benefit?

      Under the multiplier benefit, for every claim-free year, the insurer will offer up to 100% no-claim bonus in the form of an increase in sum insured. For the first claim-free year, the sum insured will increase by 50% and the second claim-free year, the sum insured will be increased by 100%.

    8. Is prescription mandatory for claiming under OPD benefit for routine medicines? If yes, then will the old prescription be considered at the time of claim?

      To make a claim for pharmacy expenses under Out Patient Department (OPD), you need to submit the prescription with a current usage requirement of the medicine. For instance, the medication for Hypertension can be lifelong while the medication for an infection will only for be for a time period.

    9. Will the insured have to submit prescription every time along with the bills in case he or she purchases routine medicines?

      The prescription can be submitted once at the end of the year along with bills for reimbursement under OPD.

    10. How will multiplier benefit work in case there is no claim in policy during all policy years?

      For a 4-year policy term, if the policyholder hasn't made any claims in all 4 years, then under the multiplier benefit, the sum insured will increase by 50% in the second year, and 100% in the 3rd and 4th years.

    11. How will multiplier benefit work in case there is claim in policy in one policy year?

      In the case of a claim, the sum insured will be reduced by 50% but not below the basic sum insured.

    12. Will vaccination be covered under OPD benefit?

      If supported by a medical prescription, vaccination will be covered under OPD benefit. In the case of routine vaccination for children, the vaccination chart has to be submitted.

    13. Can I opt for multiple sum insured for my family members covered in the plan?

      Sum insured can't be selected across the variants in one single application form. Within the chosen variant, multiple sum insured can be selected for your dependents.

    14. How can I claim my OPD expenses?

      Submit the original medical bills along with the prescriptions once at the end of the year to the insurer for reimbursement claims for OPD expenses.

    How to File a Claim With Apollo Munich?

    Apollo Munich has one of the fastest claim settlement records. About 98% of the claims have been settled within 15 days. As of April 2016, the insurer has settled claims valued at Rs.2,063 crores. When registering your claims with the insurance company's dedicated claims team, provide details such as phone number, address, name of the insured, policy number, network hospital, nature of ailment, and date of hospitalisation. Claims can be registered at the insurer's customer service centre via phone, email or in person. Intimate the insurer within 7 days of hospitalisation and submit the claim form with necessary medical documents within 15 days of discharge from the hospital.

    Cashless Claim: Visit a network hospital of the insurer to avail cashless treatment. Intimate the insurer within 24 hours of unplanned hospitalisation and 48 hours prior to your planned hospitalisation.

    • Display your health card at the network hospital help desk.
    • The hospital will verify your identity details and submit a duly-filled and signed pre-authorisation request form to the insurer.
    • After verification of the pre-authorisation request, the insurer will send an approval letter to the network hospital.
    • The hospital will proceed with the cashless treatment for the insured member. The insurer will settle the bill directly with the hospital. The insured has to pay those bills that are not covered under the policy.
    • If the cashless claim is denied, the insured member can get treated and file for a reimbursement claim after discharge.

    Reimbursement Claim: Submit the claim form along with the medical documents within 15 days of your discharge from the hospital. Upon successful verification and approval, the claim amount will be sent to the proposer in the form of a cheque within 30 days of receipt of the documents.

    • Apollo Hospitals Group Gearing up to sell 23.1% stake in Apollo Munich Health Insurance

      Apollo hospitals group is all set to sell a 23.1% stake in its health insurance. The 23.1% stake in Apollo Munich Health Insurance will be sold to partner Munich Re of Germany for Rs 163.5 crore and the deal will see the insurer getting valued at Rs 703 crore

      The transaction will be completed upon the completion of customary agreements and the applicable regulatory approvals which is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2016. Once the stake has been sold off, the holding of Apollo Hospitals Group will be reduced to 51.1% from the previous 74.4%

    • New “Dengue Care” Insurance policy from Apollo Munich

      A new insurance product has been designed and released by Apollo Munich and provides cover against dengue. It’s the first over the counter (OTC) policy available in India for cover against infectious diseases, and is available at the extremely low price of Rs.444.


      The legendary cricketer and Apollo Munich brand advocate Saurav Ganguly was present at the announcement of the policy, urging people to pledge platelets and help people suffering from dengue, while mentioning the example of his own daughter.


      The one-time payment of Rs.444 entitles insured persons to up to Rs.50,000 inpatient cover, and up to Rs.10,000 OPD coverage in addition to Rs.10,000 for consultation, diagnostic tests, pharmacy expenses and nursing at home.


      Apollo Munich claims that this policy is applicable to multiple segments of the population. It is targeted at people who know about existing insurance policies and wish to add this to their coverage, and to those segments of society who have no insurance but have heard of the dangers of dengue and wish to be protected from medical bills arising from the same.
