The Apollo Hospitals Group - the largest hospital chain in India with a total capacity of 10,000 beds - is planning to form new alliances with local healthcare providers in order to expand its network and reach. The first corporate chain of hospitals in India is also bullish that the healthcare sector within the country will witness an exponential growth with the help of radial public health programmes such as Modicare. Furthermore, the entry of other institutional players will also contribute in the development of the sector. As per the statements of Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals, Ms. Sangeeta Reddy, Apollo Hospitals has been working tirelessly to overcome the acute shortage of hospital beds and provide quality healthcare through local partnerships. The hospital chain has also been effectively providing the required healthcare services with the help of its telemedicine units and chain clinics. With the Group focusing on forming partnerships in order to venture new markets and expand its footprint, the single-hospital model has currently taken a backseat.

As part of one of the biggest acquisitions in the healthcare space in India, Fortis has recently tied up with IHH Healthcare Berhad - a major healthcare provider in Asia. With a combined capacity of 4,600 beds, Fortis has become a major competitor of Apollo. However, Ms. Reddy welcomed the news saying that this move will help the domestic healthcare segment grow further and allow the people receive better medical care quickly. In the meanwhile, she also stressed on improving the standards of medical care and its accessibility for the common people. While Apollo Hospital Group already has a significant presence in southern India, it plans on targeting all the state capitals along with expanding its network in the northern part of the country. The hospital chain has recently acquired 50% stakes worth more than Rs.90 crore at Lucknow-based Medics International Lifesciences Ltd. Expected to start functioning in the next 2 months, this super-speciality hospital has 330 beds and covers more than 3,50,000 sq. ft.

I have a corporate health insurance policy with Apollo Munich. There is a coverage of three lakhs for the entire family. There are cashless facilities and also OPD facilities too. For the cashless option I need to use the medical card at any listed hospital and if I get hospitalized in a non listed hospital I need to pay the bill upfront and I would get 90% of the bill. Like wise for the OPD option where I can get all my medical bills like scans or other tests reimbursed, the process is done in 15 days and I would get 50%.
