    Amex Credit Card Cash Withdrawal

American Express (Amex) offers cash advance or cash withdrawal feature for credit card users allowing them to withdraw cash from ATMs using their cards. The cash advance feature offered by American Express is slightly different from that of other banks, hence Amex credit cardholders must know the terms and conditions involved in availing the cash advance facility, the associated fees and charges and other details to ensure that they are utilising the facility properly.

Amex Credit Card Cash Withdrawal Feature (Express Cash Facility)

The credit card cash withdrawal feature offered on Amex credit cards is termed as Express Cash Facility. The facility allows the cardholders to access cash advances and to withdraw cash from ATMs of Amex Bank, select partner banks and from other locations as mentioned by the bank in the card’s terms and conditions.

The cash withdrawal facility to the credit cardholders will be issued by Amex at its own discretion based on the customer information, spending history and payment patterns. In case, your Amex credit card does not have the facility, you can obtain the same by enrolling in the Express Cash Facility.

To enrol for Amex credit card cash withdrawal or Express Cash facility, an enrolment form should be submitted to American Express Banking Corp., Cyber City Tower C, DLF building no. 8, Sector - 25, DLF City Phase-II, Gurgaon – 122002. Approval or rejection of the application is again at the sole discretion of American Express.

American Express Credit Card Cash Limit

Once you have enrolled for Amex Express Cash or cash withdrawal facility on your credit card, the next thing you must know is the cash limit, which is nothing but the maximum amount you can withdraw using your Amex credit card. Once your application for Express Cash facility gets approved, the bank will intimate you about the cash limit on your card. In case, you already have the facility on your card, you can check the terms and conditions document or your monthly credit statement to know the same. Alternatively, you can also call the customer care to know the cash limit on your Amex credit card.

American Express typically allows 20% of the credit limit on your credit card as cash withdrawal limit. For instance, if the total credit limit on your Amex credit card is Rs.1 lakh, you can withdraw up to Rs.20,000 under the Express Cash facility. The percentage of cash limit varies from time to time and will be communicated to the cardholder as and when a revision takes place.

American Express Credit Card Cash Withdrawal Fee

Every time you avail the Amex Express Cash facility or the cash withdrawal facility, the bank will charge a transaction fee which is called cash advance fee.

American Express typically charges a cash advance fee of 3.5% of the cash advance amount or Rs.250, whichever is higher. Hence, the higher the amount you withdraw using your Amex credit card, the higher would be the cash advance fee. The fee is applicable for every cash withdrawal made using the card. You will find the fee along with the respective GST in your next month billing cycle.

Interest On Amex Cash Withdrawal Facility

Besides the cash advance fee, another factor that makes credit card cash withdrawals a bit costlier is the interest charge. Unlike card transactions, cash advances attract interest from the date of withdrawal till they are paid back in full. It is irrespective of the outstanding on the card.

While the interest rate charged on cash advances is many times similar to the interest levied on card transactions, sometimes it may vary depending on the credit card. Hence, it’s important to be aware of the interest rate applicable on your credit card cash advance facility.

American Express typically charges an interest of 1.99% per month or 23.88% per annum to 3.5% per month or 42% per annum. The interest rates are, however, subject to change depending on the spending on the card, payback and card utilization patterns.

Since interest on cash advances is being levied from the date of withdrawal, there is no interest-free period for cash withdrawals. The payable finance charges will be added to the cardholder’s account till the amount is paid back in full.

Reward Points On Amex Credit Card Cash Withdrawal Facility

Unlike card transactions, cash withdrawals using Amex credit card do not attract any reward points. No matter how much cash you withdraw, you will receive zero reward points for cash advances.

How To Withdraw Cash Using An Amex Credit Card?

Unlike most of the banks, American Express allows cash withdrawals from Amex credit cards only through its own ATMs or partner bank ATMs. Currently American Express has partnered with HDFC Bank and IDBI Bank to provide cash withdrawal services to its credit card customers.
