Things to keep in mind when filing a motor insurance claim:
Voluntary Excess – This refers to a certain amount that you need to bare which is not covered under your insurance policy. What you need to keep in mind here is that if the cost of damage/repairs is lesser than the amount you need to pay under voluntary excess, it is advisable to not file a claim.
NCB or No Claim Bonus – For every year that you do not file a claim, you will be entitled to a No Claim Bonus. You may also enjoy discounts on future renewals of your insurance policy if you do not make a claim.
Should you make small claims?
It is advisable to avoid making small claims which are under Rs.2,000. This is because it is lesser than the NCB you will receive the following year, which is Rs.2251. In case of small accidents, it is better to get an estimate of the cost for repairs and compare it with the NCB you will forfeit the corresponding year if you make the claim. If the estimate exceeds the NCB, then it is advisable to pay for the repair yourself instead of filing a claim.
