Japanese car manufacturer Nissan said it is holding talks with Ashok Leyland for development of a small car for the world markets that can cost about $4500-5000.
The company said the project has yet to find a way out to manufacture such an economical car.
Speaking at the Geneva Motor Show, Nissan Motor Co executive vice president Collin Dodge said, “We have a formal agreement with Ashok Leyland for making light commercial vehicles in India in addition to that we also use Ashok Leyland’s engineering services for various purposes. At the moment we are talking to them and many other partners in China, Indonesia for a price centric vehicle”.
He said the aim of global small car is to enter the price range of $4,500-5,000, which is set to increase significantly and comprise about 20% of the total worldwide car sales over the period of time”.
He further added that there could be a prospect of a tie-up with Ashok Leyland on theis economical car.
He said no other leading car manufacturers such as Volkswagen, General Motors or Ford were able to manufacture small car at such a knock down price without associating with domestic companies already employed in economical manufacture.
